Racingbeat full exhaust questions

I realize that racingbeat is not currently making their full exhaust, but I'm not in any hurry.

Is it possible to put in some sort of cat for emmisions purposes (when needed)? How much of a pain in the *** would this be? Would it be better to get some sort of high flow cat to perminately fit where the silencer normally goes?

I've got the dual system which means it has two presilencers which are staggered. I'm trying to say *I don't think so*. I just keep my factory unit(complete exaust system) in the shed for that one day a year and just swap them out.

If you are interested in the upgraded exhaust from racing beat, i have a slightly used one for sale, its stainless steel headers and presilencer, good power increase, about 2000 miles on both. Look new. Ill sell both together( they wont fit if you buy one piece or the other) for $400. Let me know.

I know if you get the streetable header/collector, www.mazdatrix.com sells a highflow cat that will bolt directly between the RB header, and the y-pipe. If you want to use the stock cat, it won't work. If you want the true dual exhaust, it won't work. Just hang on to the stock exhaust once it is off, and switch it back each year for emissions testing! That's what I am doing!

Guys, it's just steel pipe! Eveyone's attitude here seems to be if it won't bolt on, it can't be done! If you want a cat, just take it to an exhaust shop an get them to put one in. This is a simple job!

RB sells all the flanges that go to their exhaust. Just buy two of them and some gaskets. Take the presilencer off and have them put a cat between the downpipe and y pipe. Its really easy. I have just the downpipe out of the full system (that doesn't bolt to the factory stuff), a midpipe that cost me $70 to get made, and an HKS catback.

I almost wish I lived in Austrailia or somewhere where ''bolt-on-itis'' wasn't so prevalent.

I know that local shops here won't do offroad exhausts. Check with a shop before you get it done! I tried, and they said they would install it, then take it out and install the stock exhaust so I could drive home. It was going to cost me $450 for a $197 part from RB. If the shop will do it, get a custom. If they won't, get eh RB presilencer or the Mazdatrix muffler.

I'm very ignorant on how all of the exhaust parts attach, so please bare with me.

Hailers: Is your system a true duel, ie. no Y-pipe?

Rico05: Can't seem to find that cat you're talking about, but RB has 2 (readily available) types of systems. 1. Complete system, single with Y pipe and odd pipe sizes. 2. All seperate parts that are ment for interfacing with other manufacturers equipment. I'd like to do #1, you think this is doable?

Felix: How comparable to the complete RB system is your setup?

Everyone: To swap the exhausts is it a simple bolt on procedure or is wielding involved? What parts of the exhaust need to be wielded together?

Any other recommendations welcome.

Mine's dual, each rotor exaust seperate. Just like the first picture in this url http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-ex86nt.htm this is for a na. I just realized I don't know whether you have a turbo or na. The seperation of the two presilencers makes it a little more difficult to patch in just one cat. Anything can be done, but is it worth it? Its all bolt on. I have a thing about welded exaust systems, and its not positive.

why do half these threads talk about headers and duals? look in his sig he's got a turbo, you are just confusing him more.

after you buy the full exhuast. pick up 2 more flanges. I think they are $15 each. then buy a universal 3" cat. take the 3 peices to a local exhaust shop after the racing beat on is installed. they will just pull out the presilencer and build a pipe with the cat and flanges that bolt straight in. my friend got one made last week. I have the flanges at my house and will make one in the next few months.

Don't worry Scott, I may be stupid, but I do know that headers and duels don't apply to my TII.

Just want to be certain, any 80mm (3.15") cat will definately fit in where the silencer goes with the RB 80mm flange (RB part# 16430)? If so this is exactly the system I'd like.

Wonder if they sell "low flow" greenie cats. How did your friend do on emisions? Any trouble removing the silencer after it had been in a while? Sounds easy to remove/swap, think even I could do it once constructed?

Thanks.

well you're not going to find a 80mm one. just get a 3" "univerisal" which means it will just have a couple inches of 3" pipe on either side of the cat. a local muffler shop will just weld some more pipe in between the cat pipe and the flanges to make it bolt in.

HAILER, Do you have the mazdatrix true dual system? And if so does it meet up to the claims of a 28% increase at the rear wheels? I just can't justify spending 1200-1400 dollars on an exhaust if I haven't heard from satisfied buyers.

That's ******* awesome...If I'd have known about that when I ordered my cat back for my 86 from RB a few years ago @ about 7 or $800(don't remember) I'd have ordered it only 600 or so more:o

seriously, that's a huge percentage and can be anywhere from 40HP+ depending on your mods

What do you think holds a Mazdatrix exhaust together? It ain't glue!
Seriously, any competent performance exhaust builder could mimic a Mazdatrix/RB/whoever exhaust in his sleep. It's nice stuff sure, but that brandname doesn't necessarily make it any better, but it does make it more expensive!
