quick question need answer NOW!
Hey guys I'm trying to get my car started, got spark got fuel I think it's flooded REAL bad. Facing the car's front end which fuse is it that you pull, I think it's the one directly to the left of the 80A fuse but I can't remember for sure.

cool, thanks, Green is the color for 30's of that type, I think red is 60 and black is the 80. Pretty sure that's standard coloring.

The other thing you can do is disconnect your fuel pump pull the plugs out and crank it for 30 sec or until the gas stops comming, make sure your plugs are dry before placing them back in. You may also need new plugs.

Don't forget to get some automatic transmission fluid and a little pump, so you can squirt a few ounces of it in the top spark plug holes. This will allow the engine to build temporary compression. Part of the reason that rotary engines won't start when flooded is because they somehow lose their ability to compress the air / fuel mixture when they have too much fuel inside them. I don't know exactly how that happens, but squiring some auto. trans. fluid or another light oil inside the engine will temporary seal it so that it can compress the air / fuel when cranking. It won't fire if it can't compress this mixture and needs at least 50-60 psi. to get going.

Ok, so I'm trying to start it now and all it does is spin away extremely fast and won't start. Sounds like it's not getting any compression right?
Also, what's the best way to make sure the fuel pump is shut off? and to shut if off also

but I need to do this in the next hour or so. Just got new plugs, and spun the engine plugs out till all the white vapor dissappeared. Now to put new plugs in, sqquirt put more plugs in and crank it.

yeah, I used an inductive timing light on the plug wires so I've got spark. It's just not starting. It's stumbling now so it's a little better. I'm gonna charge the battery for a while then try again.

other than having a bad starter or weak battery why in the world would push starting help me? Just curious cause my starter is turning like a rat on crack running in one of those damn little wheels. It feels like it's trying to start, I can feel it stumble occasionally but it's just not starting, got fuel, got spark, got a fast spinning engine, got some compression at least, some just tell me the engine is farked so I can replace this all with a turbo setup!!!!

well, you cant check your compression now since you added atf ...you have to wait till its all burned out which can take some time...push starting it helps it build compression..im also a little confused here, you said the engine is turning or not? if it is then give it a try, you got nothing to loose.

I've already tried the atf trick, push starting won't work, don't want to push it down this big damn hill and since the starter is spinning. Any more ideas?

Push starting will work.
Happened a few times in my 88GXL.. out of nowhere I'd try and start it and it would just spin like crazy.
Push starting gets it spinning a lot quicker than the starter can, building much more compression.
Just need another car, and a rope.

umm... I live on about a 30 degree slope, that's plenty to get it done, but then I wouldn't be able to get it back up SAFELY. I'll do the unflood procedure again but it isn't spinning like crazy anymore, it's spinning like a normal start now but it just wont hold it. I CAN hear and feel it hitting it just won't keep it.

You guys think maybe my seals are bad? When I have the plugs out it sounds like a locomotive, that nice puff puff puff. It sounds like it's getting compression but maybe it's just not enough? I've had some trouble starting it lately so maybe I do need to do a rebuild on it now?

compression test is the safe way to check...but the atf will mess up your numbers.
keep trying the unflooding procedure, make sure you let it rest for a few minutes between try.

heheheheheheheheeeeee............ I'd like to sincerely apologize to those whom I refered to as idiots, even if I didn't do so publicly. My shame is great now and you may pat yourselves on the back. I push started it from about 25 mph and it started. Now, I had to be at 25 for it to work mind you, so it took a little more than normal for a push start, but it worked none the less. Thank you very much for your help, and I now deem myself an *******.
I am still confused about what was wrong that I had to push start from 25mph. I think there may have been too much atf in it as well as some gas. You guys shoulda seen that smoke cloud though, I think I killed the neighboors poodle

atf smokes like hell and it will do it for a while too...seems your car was badly flooded thats why it wouldnt start. Mine was extremely flooded and i bitched and moaned about it not starting for 2 weeks on the forums until one day, EUREKA! then minutes later i learned about push starting...

haha, well I've done this before, and I have used the atf before, that was the most smoke I've EVER seen come from a car cause that one started first try after I put it in. I didn't think this was flooded though because of the way it sounded, guess I was wrong. I'd also done the deflood trick about 15 times since yesterday so I didn't think that was it. Sorry if I was rude guys, you know how we all get when the rotary gods frown on us. Oddly enough, I paid homage to them right before pushing the car down the hill the second time. yes, I had to tow it back up with my dad's saturn. It wouldn't start at 25 the first time. And now, everyone ignore this thread and some one close this thread.
