quick question

Sorry for not checking out the faq page. I am in a hurry to get to work and I just ran into this 2nd gen at a mechanics storage. Went to ask him about it, if they were trying to get rid of it or not and they said it was very possible. It is a 91 N/A The issue is that the car has been to this mechanic twice for long periods of time. The mechanic was saying that they thought the original problem was the computer so they replaced it. Now it is back to them. They say it smokes really bad for about 3 min after startup. Then you can run the rpms up to abou 3500-4000 and it wil run like a charm. But as soon as you let off it will sputter and die. I was just checking to see if this is a quick fix problem that the mechanic might be overlooking and worth buying from him, or if I should just walk away and leave it along and keep looking. I know not much info but like I said, I was/am in a hurry to get to work. Thanks for any info.

oh yeah, they had to remove the cats because they were clogged as hell. I mentioned that to the mechanic and that was what he was going to get to today or tomorrow

Most rotary problems are due to low compression, it should always be the first thing to check.
