Sounds about right...

Things like belts and wipers you can do yourself. Even as far as brake pads and the exhaust gasket. Repacking the bearings may be the hardest thing there if your not experienced and the alignment will run you around $80 anywhere you go.

You don't need an alignment to pass inspection unless your tires are pointing in different directions besides straight ahead.

If you are going to own a car such as the RX series, it would be wise to learn to do your own work. If not, I would highly suggest you get a new car because that's what you may end up spending paying someone else for repairs...

yea everything on that list you should be able to do minus the alignment. thats something you will wanna pay for. but the other stuff you and a buddy should be able to do in the driveway no problem.

Like others have said, for what you currently need, your local parts store will have everything. A website for parts is rockauto.com or mazdatrix.com, atkins rotary, and many others where mazdatrix and atkins specializes in rotary only parts...

Good gosh! That's HIGH $$$. You can do everything yourself with exception of alignment. At least do easy stuff like brake pads and rotors, wipers, blinkers. Haynes book at autozone or local autoparts store has these maunuals to explain procedures. Bearings may be tough if you dont work on cars and dont have the tools, as well as exhaust gasket.

Rockauto has alot of closeout parts at cheap prices

Thanks all!

Secrets out - I normally do all the small fixes and stuff myself, and I have a few friends heavy into mechanics that like making a project out of fixing my car. My uncle is helping me with the finance since I just got back from mid pacific and have no money, so it was his idea to put it in shop to get fixed asap for work transportation, but we were surprised with the estimated total, thus I'm back at rx7club after a year asking for answers, and conspiring with a friend to fix it ourselves, and take it in for alignment.

save your money and do the work yourself and then buy beer.

except for the alignment. if you can get it on a machine so it can align it, just do it. that would probably be the most expensive thing. doing the work yourself feels very rewarding to me imo.
