Quick Bolt Pattern Question

I have a 1991 coupe with a bolt pattern of 5-114.3, I'm looking at rims which are to fit on a GXL, the bolt pattern is listed as 5-114, is the point three required or is it the same?

nope they will work...
5x114.3 also 5x4.5 is the exact same for future reference.
offset plays a key roll in wheel selection also.
stock t2 wheels come with a offset of 45 or around there, preferably i would lean anyone down to +30 to make the stance a bit wider and will fit under stock bodied cars with no problems unless your up in the 9.5-10 in width range which i doubt your looking for

no not that big, these tires are 17x8, bolt pattern of 5x114.3 and an offset of 40mm, which, based on this site, FC FAQ, is exactly what the stock rims and tires are so I think they will fit just right

Actually, the stock TII wheels are +40 offset (see the FAQ). Those are 16 x 7" though, so with a 17 x 8" wheel with the same offset, the wider wheel will be 1/2" closer to the suspension. A +40 offset is not really ideal for an 8" wide wheel since some 225 section width tires will rub the stock springs up front.

Your car being a '91 NA should have the smaller springs which helps a little. I had some 16 x 8" +38 offset wheels with 225/50-R16 tires that fit great on my '90 GTU but rubbed on my '88 GTU because the '88 has the "hard" suspension with larger springs.

I've never heard of a 5x114mm bolt pattern... Perhaps the number was rounded.

damn, well selecting a GXL because '91 coupe wasn't listed, it was listed as a rim which would fit on my car

GXL and 91 Coupe did have the same OEM wheel specs: 15 x 6", +40 offset. Tire Rack's suggested fitments are typically as close to OEM as possible. The 17 x 8" +40 wheels will fit and most 225 section tires will probably fit without rubbing, but if you want to ever run a wider tire up front or prefer a more flush look, a lower offset would be more ideal.

Edit: I see from the link you provided that Tire Rack is suggesting a 215 tire width, which should eliminate any concern about rubbing.
