Cool Questions on Rebuilding 2 engines, doing an Auto to Manual swap and a Manual to Auto

I have a 87 n/a coupe base model that blew it's rear rotor, and a 90 vert that blew an oil seal inside the engine. I am planning on rebuilding the 2 engines next week after i order the parts and my dad is going to rebuilding the 87 n/a engine and i get the 90 motor to work on, and eventually i'm going to sell the 87 to my dad.

My questions pertain to what kits would be the best for rebuilding both engines. On the atkins rotary website it has 3 different rebuild kits for each series of engine, the question is would i need to spend the money on the largest kit or would i be able to but the 300 some odd dollar kit for one or both of my rx-7's?

I was thinking i coudl go for the cheaper kit for sure on the Vert because it blew an oil seal and the compression on both rotors was still good (my dad did a rough compression test with his tools on it.)

And i was thinking my dad would have to invest a wee bit more than me for the 87 engine that blew an apex seal, would it be possible to just replace the springs or would the safest and most reliable bet be to just get the kit with the apex seals?

Also my father and i are giving the vert a manual transmission and the 87 coupe the auto, but who knows maybe my dad will get the tranny for an 88 manual from the local junkyard and we'll figure it out for there.

well those are my quick questions about that,
OH!!!! random question, before my vert shitted out on me the radio kept blowing fuses, probably every week or so, what the hell is up with this? do i need to check over all the wiring for the radio or is it something else?

thanks for all the help homies,
Peace,
Marla

There is like 100 threads on engine rebuilding. Please use the search function. Your answer is simple, you do not know what kit ot order until you ntake apart the engines, strip them down and measure clearances/specs.

Also, your looking at doing a s4 and a s5 at the same time, one suggestion for your experience level - do one at a time, most parts are not interchangable. If as an example you swap one rotor from each you will have to real bad running engines.
