Questions to pass CA Emissions (EGR Visual / Hoses)
Hey guys,
I just picked up a 87 RX7 TII Turbo (13 B engine) a few days ago and took her into smog. Everything passed with flying colors except for 2 hoses disconnected and the tech wrote my EGR was tampered.
My EGR valve is capped off and I found these 2 hoses (3 hoses total) not connected. [The third hose is under the charcoal canister which i've been reading up on that this is NOT suppose to go anywhere, just into the atmosphere.]
--
1st hose - Left valve of the Charcoal Canistor which runs along the firewall. I see a nipple behind the oil filter but points towards the side of the car rather then towards the firewall. (Which i've been reading that there is a nipple towards the firewall and near the filter, which is the right placement for the hose.) Any suggestions?

2nd Hose - Left valve for the (fuel container?) near the charcoal canister, its location is the top left passenger side against the firewall. Ideas?

3rd - EGR Valve itself, does this need a hose connected somewhere or can it just be capped off?

The 2nd hose is for a cold weather start assist. You could simply eliminate it as it was not someing expected for a California car. To be honest, I haven't seen one of those in yearssssssssss.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 1st hose simply plugs into a nipple at the base of the oil fill.
No picture of the 3rd hose, so not sure which hose you're talking about.

The 1st hose connects to the emissions rack just above the fuel feed & return lines. There is a connection facing the strut tower. The nipple actually on the oil filler neck runs directly the the bottom of the PCV.
Ditch the cold weather system. We don't have that here .
For the EGR, it connects to the rack on the back side of the LIM. As long as it's connected there, you shouldn't have any trouble passing the visual test. The EGR solenoid and its vacuum lines may already be set up.

ugh, yet another smog tech that doesnt know **** about our cars.....
tell him to look up the emissions vacuum line diagram in the books before he goes marking **** tampered....
but ya, rotaryrocket is right, ditch the zero start, keep the bottle though.

You guys were right it is the Oil Filler tube, I found it to be cut and the tube is short so I will have to get a replacement hose. I'm assuming most automotive shops will have the correct size hose. (i.e. o reilly's, autozone, etc.)
I want to also replace out the spark plugs and do a fresh oil change / radiator flush. Again, i'm assuming they'd have the sparkplugs at autozone, etc.
As for the cold weather tube, I'll be just taking it out and putting it aside.
Lastly, i'm gonna get a smog test at a different place later this week or next week. I'll keep you guys posted if anything else comes up. Thanks guys!
