Question on project car

Alright, I've been looking for a while in my area. (Fort COllins, about an hour north of Denver Colorado) and have yet to find a TII in the shape I'm looking for at a reasonable price. I've actually only seen one TII and the owner wasn't willing to part with it. So my question is this: Would it be feasible to buy a TII body without engine/non-working engine and just drop a newly rebuilt engine into the car. Keep in mind I have never owned a car before. I plan on making this vehicle my project if you will and hope to do every repair she needs myself. I know this will end up being a big challenge for some tasks, but I have an open mind.

So my main question is: Would you recommend this plan? And if so, what mods should I be thinking about putting in at the same time as the engine. Any help would be great, thanks.

How old are you? I'm only 17 and I started doing work on cars (serious work like body, engine, ect.) at 16. Sites like these are very useful for knowlege and help. BUT DO YOUR HOMEWORK before even thinking about taking something apart! If your not sure don't just shrug and do it ASK SOMEONE and be sure to find a friend in the RX-7 world that can help you out.

As far as buying a car and dropping an engine in it I would'nt suggest that for a beginner. And I also would'nt reccommend a turbo car for a beginner. Theres more to set-up like timing and flow ect. ect. I have a 88 GXL with a N/A S5 engine in it and I'm shooting for around 180 WHP. And that's not very diffucult at all with a 60K mile 13B engine. ANYWAYS I'd say for your first car find any Gen 2 RX-7 that has a decent amount of miles on it and go from there. Take your time and don't just slap stuff on there that looks like **** and serves no real HP or performance gain. SAVE UP FOR THE GOOD STUFF you'll be pleased in the long run and more satisfied. AND DON'T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RICE OUT YOUR CAR WITH EBAY WINGS AND NEONS AND GAY **** LIKE THAT!

But anyways theres quite a few mods you can do yourself and for free/cheap. Porting is an awesome way to improve performance on any engine but don't try to port something out if your not comfortable with the situation. CAI (cold air intakes) are a SUPER EASY and most excellent mod for an engine as it allows cooler air to flow through the engine via the intake pipe. They are usually just round tubing that have an Cone Filter close to the lower part of the engine bay (for cooler air access). They are very easy to find for your car and are relativly cheap. And Exhaust are very important too. I would normally say don't put on an exhaust until u tune your engine and then start making an exhaust due to that specific engine tuning. Not all exhaust are the same (duh) but a manufacturers product (i.e. Racing Beat, Magnaflow, and HKS) will be very reliable and will work fine for your engines general exhaust needs. But for a beginner just get your car to run without problems and stick to easy and general items that add HP. Theres a bunch of mod list on this site for every kind of RX-7 project you could think of. And most the people on this site are super willing to give a helping hand to anybody in need. SEARCH IS YOUR FRIEND! But if searchin' aint' workin' then ask away.

O and when you finally buy a car pick up a HAYNES OWNER MANUEL for it. Or pick up whatever manuel people suggest for that specific year/model. That will save you hours of time geussing and what not.

OK thats my .02 cents let's get this guy some help.

my aim is dyetrying004 if you ever have any questions...don't overuse it though haha.
