question on air pump/rb exhaust

ok so i got the racing beat cat back for my na 87 fc. i then got the downpipe and presilencer and my uncle can get me inspection stickers so i can take the cat off. but racing beat said that i need to remove the air pump and regulator. my question is why. some people told me to leave it. im just not sure. im gunna do it tomarrow and just wondered if i should go through the trouble if i dont have to. racing beat included a cover plate to seal the hole left by the reg.

let me know if any1 can help, id greatly appreciate it.

The air pump is used in conjunction with the catalytic converter to lower emmisions.
On a s4 NA it is also used to activate the aux intake ports.

Whats your car?

The reason it says to take off the air pump is becuase the RB dp/presilencer makes it useless. The point of the airpump (at least on s4's) is to push fresh air into the cat to help the emmisions and keep the cat from burning up. Since you no longer have the cat, the airpump is just dead weight and in the way. You will need to hook up the split air pipe to the presilencer, but that should already be in the directions.
Edit: the above guy is wrong, the air pump is used to open the aux ports on s5's, not s4's. Just follow the racing beat directions, they are correct.

oh, and i got an S4.

if i were to leave my air pump on would it even matter? it really isn't all that heavy is it? and the acv has 2 wires. what do i do with them?

I am 100% sure that you can remove the air pump. The air pump opens the 5th/6th ports ONLY on s5's. I have an s4 with the same setup as you and no airpump, and the aux ports work. I don't think the airpump weighs a whole lot, but it does kinda clutter the engine bay. Its easier to work on the car with it removed. As for the wires, I honestly don't remember what to do with them. Maybe someone else will chime in on what to do. You might also be able to find something by searching.

Yeah i meant s5 sorry. The s4 works off a sensor where that split air pipe hooks up that reads backpressure. If you have an s4 you can ditch the air pump.
