I find that they aren't any different than any other car, if they are maintained and not abused. The problem at this time, is that they are at least 15 years old, so you'll experience the problems of a 15 year old car.
I purchased my S5 TII new, and it's been great with 186,000 miles. The trans was rebuilt at 88,000 miles under an extended warranty. Because of a cracked seal, the engine was replaced with a Mazda remanufactered unit at 155,000 miles. At that time I replaced the clutch assembly (first replacement), had the trans rebuilt again (syncros), only the second set of brakes (front and rear), shifter bushings, used TPS in 2001 and a new TPS 2006, used BAC 2002, rebuilt the front and rear calipers once, driveshaft 2001, and the one time I used the wipers, the switch was bad, so I had Mark rebuild the unit, and haven't used it since, as the car was in the rain only that one short time since 1992. Plugs every 7,000 miles, and oil changes every 3,000 miles. I guess that's it, other than normal maintenance, as everthing stock, except ECU, FD pump, D/P, and cat. It still has the original rotors, turbo, Y pipe, mufflers, wipers, suspension (tight as a drum) air intake, etc. I replaced the battery with a Die Hard in 1995 only because it was 6 years old, and, hard to believe, but that Die Hard battery is still in there-11 years later.
Since engine replacement, 22,000 miles, the car still runs great, and pulls strong with 10/11 lbs. Guess I'll have it forever.
Good Luck

^^ Impressive. It's hard to find an original owner on here.

In my experience most FC turbos need to be rebuilt, or could use a rebuild around 100k miles...

We charge $300 return shipped for rebuilt FC turbos:
