quartermaster no TURBO flywheel
hey whats up everyone, im needing some help. i pieced together a QM twin plate clutch 7.25" setup but ran into a problem when it came down to the flywheel. seems the only flywheel they make is for non-turbo(part # 506521). after talkn with QM they have told me that they do NOT make a tii flywheel, so i didnt get sent the wrong flywheel by mistake. so my question is, is there anyone running their clutch setup and if so what flywheel are you running?
ps - QM did have me call Fidanza to get a flywheel from them. but they dont have any instock and the quote for them to make 1 was $1000-$1200. so thats def out of the question.
thanks for any info that anyone is able to pass on.

Well, I dunno about the QM you have, but the Tiltons can use a modified flex plate so as to use thier clutch. You need a competent machinist to index and machine the flexplate, but its not rocket science.

not really. my budget is big enough but i def spend my money wisely. just tryn to see if anyone else ran into this problem and what their outcome was before sending it back and buyn another setup. im stationed in england and shipping things to and from can be risky at times, but thanks for your input.

I called Quartermaster about purchasing a 7.25" twin plate clutch and they told me I could mount it to my stock flywheel. You could probably mount it to a lightweight steel flywheel also if you're looking to save weight. Racing beat sells one. Customer service also told me I would need a different release bearing. I'm still thinking about the 7.25" clutch but I really wanted something with a sprung hub so I haven't decided yet.

did they explain how you can do this? the stock clutch is wider than 7.25", so that would place the mount holes in the middle of the stock flywheel where there are no bolt holes, unless im missing something
this pic is of a tilton but still has the same 6 bolt mounting pattern as the 7.25" QM

i just installed a very USED os giken today, until i figure out if i will be able to run a QM setup. im using a stock throwout/release bearing and can not get into gear at all, just grinds and grinds. did you have to use a special release bearing?

No I did not, but you can over-center an OS Giken and it will do what you described.

- Mazda Comp Billington NA-sized flywheel for a 5.5" clutch
- Quarter Master 5.5" 2-disk clutch pack (TII-spline disks)
- TII transmission milled to allow the starter to engage the smaller-diameter flywheel
You could probably do the same with the 7.25" setup if a local shop can modify your transmission accordingly. Mazda Comp should be able to help you find a NA-sized flywheel that works with a 7.25" clutch.
