Put on New Bearings Endplay still 0.004?

Hey all, I just put new thrust bearings on my rebuild and my endplay didn't change at all, And I did use a Dial Caliper and the new bearings were just a hair thinner than th eold ones so it should have made a noticable difference right? I am using a V spacer now.
Should I just go to the smallest spacer available and get it below the 0.0035 inch mark? I would like to have it tighter than that though.

Maybe lap the spacer? Maybe 220 or 320 paper and some time.

Is it a problem to use a spacer smaller than the Z spacer (smallest that mazda offers)?

Well I tried measuring the endplay a few different ways. The first way I did it was I had the base of the dail indicator sitting on the counterweight, and the dial indicator was sitting on the surface that the front cover attaches too (this gave my 0.004). The second time I measured it I had the base of the dial indicator sitting on the housing and the dial indicator sitting on the counterweight, and that gave me about 0.0035) Which way is better for measuring?

I wonder how this turned out??????? I rigged my indicator to the flywheel and measured the slack b/t the flywheel and the rear housing.

I did the same as hailers. It seemed to work fairly well.

I keep all of the spacers on hand and just throw the correct size in. I can't explain it but sometimes the math dictates a sapcer smaller than whats avaliable, yet, using the smallets spacer it all works out. If you have a builder near you you might be able "trade" yours. I have done so for a kid locally.
