Purchase Advice Needed

I looking into getting a 2nd Gen RX-7. There are two cars that I'm looking at. One is a '90 GXL, 5spd, with 46k on it. The other is a '87 TII, 5spd, I'm not sure of the milage on the turbo. The reason I'm even comparing the N/A and the Turbo is because of the low miles. What would you guys recommed here?

Also, how hard/feasible would it be to put a turbo on the GXL?

do a search on the forum to find out how "feasible" it is to put a turbo on the gxl. However, finding a 90 with only 46k is really nice... Check the mileage on the 87 turbo, because if it has 125k+, and is on the original motor and tranny... it most likley needs a new engine and transmission, also, what are the asking prices...?

I later found the FAQ and it has some info about N/A --> Turbo swaps.

I wasn't able to get the milage on the TII because it is at a dealship and they were closed today. The low miles on the GXL are what really draw me to it. I'm worried though because its 100+ miles away and therefore I won't be able to go check it out until next weekend. I'm hoping noone snags it.

As for the prices, the Turbo is $4,800 and the GXL is $4,900.

Hmm... I'd do a carfax before buying any used car from a dealer. One of my friends' dad owns a used car dealership and a lot of cars he buys from auctions that were junked/wrecked and are put back together.

What do you want? A nice fun reliable car or a fast car?

Pick any two:

Fast, cheap, reliable.

They both seem overpriced, you could find a decent car at a dealer, just not a good value...I would shop around alot more first...Never hurts to go look at them, drive them, learn more about them...Then BUY from a private owner/seller to get the best value!
Good luck/skill!

CrackHeadMel - Belive me, If I didn't have to buy this car soon I would save up and get a nice turbo, but the thing is I need this car pretty much ASAP.

Also what does everyone else think of the prices on these?

As long as the car is in very good shape i dont think its expensive at all.
up in Toronto ive seen very clean TII's go for over 10 grand cad easily. but than again there very hard to come buy, especially a clean TII
i'd say go with the TII if the mileage is on the low side,
in my personal opinion the TII swap is alot of work, than again im a lazy *** ****.

Yeah, the more I read about it the less I think I would do a swap if I got the N/A. I'm not even going to consider the TII if it has more than 100k on it, esp. since the GXL only has 46k

Look around seriously for a few weeks or so. Read the boards here for at least a month before buying anything. You will have an idea of how the cars are to live with and the problems associated with them and what to look for in buying one.

There is a forum member in the South section who is selling a convertable in near mint condition. Here is the Thread Link...

He has it listed on E-bay

Like I said earlier I would love to look around longer, but I need to buy a car ASAP because I'm going off to school. Also, that RX-7 for sale has almost 200k on it. I'm not looking to get anything with nearly that many miles
