pulse on warmup

ok ive had a pulsing idle, only on warmup for a while now, otherwise the idle is ok.
after installing my safc2, i was watching the numbers while it pulsed, and i noticed some stuff.

when i first start the car, the throttle reads around 3% when its actually at 0. i assume this is the cold start assist holding the secondary throttle plates open a crack. as it warms, it slowly moves down to 0, once again i assume its the thermowax getting hot and closing the plates.

the pulsing only happens when the throttle reads between 1% and .1%... then it stops and doesnt happen again unless i start it cold again.

could this be sticky throttle plates? bad thermowax? the secondary diaphragm? id like to fix this because its really damn annoying

Been my experience with those symptoms that:

TPS out of adjustment or failing.
and/or
Wrong temperature or worn out spark plugs.

easy test... unplug the TPS and see if the problem goes away. if it does, then the TPS needs adjusting

tps is in spec i finally got it right
multimeter reads .95 at the tps connector, sensor check on the safc2 reads .96 on the ecu side.
plugs are new. (3 days old)

when it pulses, the AFM % doesnt change, and the throttle % doesnt change. whatever is happening isnt being sensed by anything. my A/F gauge reads it though, it looks like it goes into closed loop for a cycle.

this is stumping me :/

Try adjusting the TPS at the ECU to set it with the meter correctly.

Then if it is still having problems, start backing the adjustment screw off one turn at a time.

try unplugging the TPS anyway!

my TPS is within spec as well, but my idle surges when warming up then levels out aftwerward... unless I unplug the TPS.

see "within spec" is the problem.

You may think that the TPS is set correctly by meter but, they still can be off. I personally think that the meter method is only 90% correct on average.

And the .95 that sleeyjay has, is off by .05 just with the meter. That is 5% off of spec.

Of course that does not correct for or include any calibration errors in the meter itself, which could push that 5% up to 10% and why he is only having problems when partially cold.

So if you are going to set the TPS according to your meter and then if you still are having problems try backing the screw off a turn or in a turn to get the most accurate set up. You might have to tweak it a couple of times out (or in), but the problem will go away when you get it set correctly.
