Pulsation damper failed....
Well guys..... The thing you all dread oh so much!!!! Pulsation Damper Failure leading to engine fire. If you smell gas dont drive your car and make sure your pulsation dampers arent leaking. If they are GET IT FIXED!!!!!!! Big Pictures Sorry
Whats left of the wires behind the smog pump...
View of the compartment without the intake hose and bracket
The melted fan and Shroud
Nuked Charcoal Canister and Wiper... Already got replacement wiper moter
Picture right after the fire. Evaporated Antifreeze everywhere!!!!
So Im kinda newb at this....She's an 87 all stock GXL and i want to fix it but I'm a poor *** college student. Need to find parts very cheaply and im not lookin for anything fancy just something to get her workin again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I "lost" my emissions....
dude seriously, we need to get on this crap, i would sue mazda, some guy did when his fd got torched and won too i think. if you can prove that was it then im pretty sure you can get em on it, for an fc they'll prolly settle quick just to not have to worry about it, and you may get enought to make out with a nice t2 with cash on the side maybe. they need to do a damned recall on those things tho.

funny thing is, i am sure you wont win, becauses there is technical service bulletins about the PD failer, which releaves them from all liability. also doesnt the FSM say to check for PD failier? an engine fire due to poor maitanace is not the responsablity of Mazda, Bitch.

i had my pulsation dampner fail and found the leak before my engine did this..
So glad mine didn't catch fire cause I drove awhile before getting it replaced.
So sorry to see another trashed engine compartment due to this crap.
I agree, a recall should be made for these things!

I "lost" my emissions....
do the 8's come with them? if so are they plastic?
if not that means mazda realized the design flaw and the new ones should be retrofitted. i removed mine entirely and ran straight fuel lines, worse for power, but a small price to pay to not have to worry about that crap

they aren't all that prone to failure, most of the time the fuel hoses are in much more poor shape than the PD is by the mileage they see. unfortunately these are not new cars and nothing will be done to have a recall done on our cars since they are mainly over 100k miles by now. if there would have been a rash of failures sooner i believe something would have been done but these cars are almost 20 years old now, nothing lasts forever and you can't expect it to.
