The problem is that propane BTU rates are lower than gasoline.
This means you need to burn a lot more propane to make the same amount of power that gasoline does.
With the high octane rating, it does resist pre-ignition a lot better than gasoline though...

when it comes to alternate fuels, you also have to consider the stochiometric ratio. any clue what that ratio is with propane?
for awhile i was wondering if it would be possible to make an ethanol powered turbo fc running like 25 lbs of boost.. seeing as how ethanol has an octane of like 120..

i don't know that is burns much less than fuel in a combustion engine, a fellow mechanic had a propane (100% propane fuel) setup on his 350 V8 truck, it got about the same gas mileage and produced close to the same power as he did with his gas setup on it, the propane was cheaper by the gallon at the time so it was much more economical.

I'd be interested in having a "NOS" (lol) style setup with this... with a bottle that could last for about 10 minutes total before needing to be refilled.
Good way to cool the car down during autox or canyon runs that don't last longer than a few minutes each, if that... just turn it off the rest of the time when you're not trying to keep the revs above 7k...
Only problems would be cost (has to be about equiv. to an E-fan, 'cause the HP gains would be pretty small in my N/A) and what class the autox guys will put me in when they see it. lol

Once LPG gets close to the cost of gasoline, the "advantage" is minimized.

i don't think it was a question for some time, he was complaining then (a few years back) about the price of LPG and was considering going back to a gasoline setup. my comparison was that the difference isn't much, LPG burns more thoroughly than gasoline but at a slower rate, you can counter this somewhat with its increased octane by raising timing. i wouldn't bother with a full conversion on an FC but it would help a bit as an injection method but then again alot of things can be injected to help with combustion, some things that don't even cost money such as water.
