Actually you can leave it in neutral.

The few verts I've been around didn't have LSD.

Progress on tonights work

OK, tonight we made lots of progress...in my opinion. We completely prepped the engine for removal and we will be getting the engine hoist tomorrow. Jef spent a lot of time (a couple hours) doing the polishing on the engine with a wire attachment on a drill. We also painted the pulleys tonight blue. Plans for tomorrow are :
1. Drive to sacramento to get mandrel bent pipe for the turbo inlet duct and also for a ram air intake setup.
2. Print out the factory service manual and assemble it into binders
3. Get the engine hoist and remove the old engine.
4. Reassemble the jspec engine and prep it for being lifted into car.
5. Primer and paint the now empty engine bay blue.
(I will be very happy if we can get all this done but I know it's a stretch so if we shoot for all of this, hopefully we can finish most of it at least.)
Tomorrow's Wednesday and I hope that buy Friday we can have this engine in the car running. Then maybe we can take it off the lift and store it in the side parking lot with a sheet over it until the exhaust components arrive.

Video is coming along. It will not have EVERY step but will so far include some of the engine wiring harness installation, the polishing of the engine. If there are any important steps people want us to specifically record please let us know. We may be selling the VHS tapes at the cost of the tapes and most likely a small fee for our time. Maybe $10 a tape or something. And we might possibly make it available on a video file. Also the video will include us spinning donuts in a first gen RX-7, and a 2nd gen supra. And when my car is finished I will do lots and lots of donuts with flames coming out my exhaust pipe. Also, possibly to be included is some drunken bonus footage of us RX-7 guys being stupid after a whole bottle of Jack Daniels. Updates will be posted nightly.

Okay, I forgot what I was going to comment on....

But seriously... a whole bottle? I didnt think you were *that* drunk Buddy... then again, you were screaming like a little girl most of the time.... hmmm.

Anyways, I'm going to try to get some sleep before we head to Sac tomorrow. Not going to be fun. I still think we're operating on an optimistic schedule here.

ok whew, almost done, its great to actually see a big change.

We have the engine and tranny completely out, it was alot easier than I thought and we kept the broken parts down to a couple of annoying rubber fuel lines and of coarse the AC System wghich is now completely removed.

Pushing the car outside today and going to use about 5 cans of degreaserr on the engine bay to get rid of some of that 10+ year old grime and greese.

Started to take my seats out to install my new Racing seats and my god is my carpet nasty, I did manage to make about $3 in change though So it looks like the carpet is going to the trash bin as many years of slight leaks in a vert have pretty much destroyed it.

On the Jspec, Jef has done an awsome job makinng that think shiney as hell and we painted a few items with some HiTemp Blue paint and We are almost done with replacing all the vacume and fuel lines with fresh new ones. Motor will be put in later today and hopefully we will fire it up tonight or tommorow

If your wondering why its taing so long, a few critical componets were delayed in shipping and I have had to wait at my house for the damn ups guy...It was great yesterday as I got about 10 boxes of stuff. The only thing left to wait for is:
[*]Blitz SS BOV (Steve??)[*]Apexi N! Single (Jason???)[*]A-Pillar Pod (Jason???)[*]RB DP/MP (Paul???)

and that will be it.

BuddyRX7,

I hear you on waiting for Parts. Still waiting on some stuff from Japan

Did you have to sand down & repaint behind the engine? I've heard any coolant/oil leaks totally rusts the engine compartment.

BTW - has anyone driven the TII automatic in Japan? I'm just wondering how it performs as that trans has to be ECU controlled I love the 5 speed, but I am curious how a racing automatic works.

Progress

We're not waiting on very many parts now. just the full exhaust and BOV. We were planning on repainting the engine bay and finally decided it was too much of a hassle and that after cleaning it it looked pretty damn good anyway. There was some rust and some of the paint came off like dried leaves but that was pretty minimal in hard to view places anyway. As of today we made some good progress. Yesterday we put the jspec completely together and got it all nice and clean as well as cleaned the engine bay. Also the carpet was completely removed and the seats were replaced with the racing seats. (leather seats are now for sale if anyone wants to upgrade to some seats with speakers in them.) Oh, also, we took the clutch off and found out that this engine had an Exody clutch on it that was in good shape. I'm thinking about buying a good pressure plate and 18 pound flywheel to compliment it. Anyone have any suggestions? Engine is about ready to but dropped into the car. Only a couple more days till project is complete...with the exception of exhaust of course which will probably be here by the end of the week.
