Profec-B vs. AVC-R?
First off let me say that I did a search and couldn't come up with much info. Ok so here is my question: With a fairly heavily moded TII which is better for boost control? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? thanks

if you could get your hands on an Original Profec B then go with that. Plus you could hide that thing almost anywhere. The AVC-R just screams LOOK AT ME, and frankly is un-needed rice. they both can do the job great. but i'm just looking at performance, not to be a contender for HOT Import Nights.

The AVC-R isn't just rice.
It has some very in-depth features that the Profec B does not have. Specifically gear and rpm based boost.
Setting that up takes some time, but it can be very useful at the strip and the track, when you don't necessarily want tire-spinning boost during launch, or coming out of a slow corner...
The stepper motor of the old Profec B seems to be more reliable than the solenoid on the Spec II. The AVC-R and the Spec II seem to have the identical solenoid.

I went out of my way to get the OLD Profec-B basically because I didn't like the solenoid design of the Spec-II..
eVil is right, the Avc-r, has a lot of useful features.. BUT, I'd be willing to bet that 90% of the people buying it won't use it, or, more likely, will use it wrong!!!
I got a great deal on a old style profec B with the remote switch so, I'll use that to launch and then switch to higher boost after 1st gear..
However, the gear boost is nice on the AVC-r. No buttons to push, just set it and go!
The Profec B Spec II is cheaper, but to get the switching cabability (without fumbling for a button on the unit while driving), you gotta buy the remote switch for $110, now you are in the same range as the AVC-R.
My 2 cents.... if you are going to buy a NEW one and the ability to switch the boost is a priority... Get the AVC-r.. If it isn't get the Profec-b without the button and save 140 bucks...
If a used one will suffice.. grab the first gen profec B.. (i still like its control aparatus better), you can get them for around 200.

I never really found a need for RPM or gear based Boost. To me it's something i can control with suspension and traction. But to each is his own.
I've seen people go through ordeals trying to get the AVC-R dialed in. especially those with twins, or even those with sequential changed to parrallel.

The original Profec B is one of the best, decently priced EBC you can buy. That is why so many people swear by them.
Easy install.
Reliable stepper.
2 boost settings.
Easy gain control.
