Problems I'm having...Just need reasurance :)

Well hello everybody. I know it's only been a day since my car has started running but these are the problems I'm having....

1) IDLE... I'm almost 100% sure this is a vac leak caused by the tube that is supposed to go to the BAC. What do you guys do with this big nipple when you replace the BAC with a block off plate?? I just tried caping it with the factory tube that goes there and some duct tape...ha..didnt work to well. POP...

2) Backfire/Misfire... I'm thinking this might have something to do with the vac leak also. Something to do with the MAF not being able to open up correctly. Also could be something to do with timing. If anybody has some input on this that would be great. It's in the lower rpm range...like under 3000.

3) SMOKE....SMOKE....and MORE SMOKE... My friend Casey says this is probably due to my turbo being fried because I am also having alot of oil blowby. I could probably use the oil in the muffler to refil my engine oil. HAHA. A LOT of oil for only having about 2 hours under her belt.

4) GUAGE CLUSTER IS NOT WORKING... I checked the fuse next to the clutch...it's good. Tomarrow im going to take the cluster out and make sure it's hooked up. Kinda sucks when you cant see what rpm, psi, and temp you are running. HAHA. One good reason I haven't driven it more than 30 miles. Just to try to get the bugs worked out of her.

5) STRANGE SOUND COMING FROM POWER STEERING PUMP... I'm going to investigate this more tomarrow so I really don't need too much input on this one. I haven't even looked at it yet. HA.

I think that's all for now. Not too bad for only 1 day after it was running...

I hope to have some pics soon. Thanks everybody.

1: not sure havent done that yet
2: check your tps and make sure its adjusted right timing might be something to check as well but you really shouldnt time it until you get the vaccum leak solved
3: what color smoke? whiteish/blue is coolant if i remember correctly and black smoke is oil. your oil consumption is alot more than normal. do you have any leaks??
4:check all your fuses not just the gauge bezel. im not sure but i think the room fuse and the radio fuse might be tied in with the gauge bezel. so you might wanna check all your fuses before you go ***** out taking your dash apart. start simple and work from there to the harder stuff
5: the pump or the bearings might be worn out . take the belt off and see if the sound goes away. if not then the pump is not the problem. if so either you can relpace the pump or go without powersteering by removing it .

hope this helps

Update on the Ol' Girl

Well fellow FCers number 1 and 5 are for the most part fixed. My idle is much better. I reset my tps. Super easy to do. I thought it was going to be hard. HAHAHA...so much happiness. And as for my power steering. I took off the bottom most line and drained the fluid...probably from the manufacturer. HAHA.. It was really dark colored. So I let it drain it all out and put new stuff in. Works like a charm now. I'm glad that was easy too.

My car is still smoking like crazy. I changed my oil today from Mobil1 Synth 15w-40 to Castrol GTX 10w-40. Got away from the synthetic hoping it would help with my burning oil problem. So much for that. I'll have to go pick up a turbo this weekend. If anybody has any input please let me know. Also if anybody in San Diego would be kind enough to maybe come over to my apartment in Scripps Ranch ...about 3 miles away from Miramar Air Station... and just look the car over to make sure I didn't mess something up really bad...please by all means..give me a ring or shoot me an email. or even chat it up on AOL. Thanks everybody.

Pics

BTW.....I almost forgot..I took some pics with my cell phone today. Here they are...

The first one is my car when it's turned on. I just started it up and gave it a little rev. Thats what it looks like when I do it. Funny HUH

Second one is my car off. Just showing you what it looks like when the car is not all smokey.

The third one is when I was in a hurry to try the new ecu. Mine was messed up so I put in the 2nd one real quick because I was excited.

Let me know what you think. I'll actually take some good pics tomarrow.

BYEBYE

on the guage cluster-

They all share the same connectors ME-02 and FEM-01

prolly did a silly mistake and missed one of the connectors by the ecu (clear/orangish one 11pin)

infact nearly positive...........

Got another one fixed!!!

Well everybody I got number 3 problem fixed. HAHA. I'm an idiot but I thought I would post it because I don't want anybody else to make this problem. The car was smoking really bad bla bla bla. I initially thought it was the turbo but I found another website that told me differently. I was confused about some of the hoses coming off of the motor; these being the ones that go to a purge control valve and that hooks to the charcol canister...well anyway. I caped them off. Ends up the engine was not able to get rid of the pressure causing oil not to be able to return back to the engine crankcase. Well I not only saved myself 75 bucks but learned something new. Pretty cool I guess. I know you salty FCers will probably be like DUH. But this is defintaly something that anyone could do...newbee's anyway.

Does anybody have anything else to try for the Gauge Cluster or Backfiring issues??

Thanks everybody.

Curtis

p.s. Here is the site that I visited...just so you know. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/h...ine_other.html Yes I know that it's a site for FD's.

Question about number 4. My clock in the dummy light blinks off and on. Does anybody think this might contribute or be something to my gauge cluster problem. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.
