PRESILENCER!... fock. lol

I am looking to get a presilencer, but i am planning to make it flanged to bolt on.

options are...

Borla xr-1 40942, 16in case, 17in overall length, need to add 3 in of pipe and 2 flanges...
Magnaflow (either offset or tin can style.. i think the offset will give more noise reduction but may be harder to make it bolt on.. just need flanges.. length is perfect..)
Racingbeat.... cant go wrong.. i have rb headers....

only peice im missing is the presilencer, i got everything else in my car, and cant drive it cos of that.. it will be mated to a jic spartan de single exit exhaust... my car is n/a... trying for noise reduction...

anyone have any insight of making something like this without bringing it to a muffler shop and saying heres my car heres the muffler put it in! lol..

are you asking if there is anything that will fit between the RB headers and spartan exhaust? I doubt you will find anything that will fit without some fabrication. If you can weld, you should be able to get the flanges pretty easy, I know RB sells them as I used the ones they had to get a 3 inch bonez cat to fit into my RB turbo back set up.

Either way id get the RB, they make great stuff.

so little insight.. people just vote? add opinions please heheh

i was thinking maybe the others can muffle better than the presilencer from rb. but i can be wrong. i am still deciding between those three, i've heard mix revies everywhere, as magnaflow blows out too quick, borlas cant hold up, but i heard xr1 are great. rb... its just one heavy ****. lol anyone...???

The Borla one, imo, will never resist to the heat that a rotary breaths out. The RB one is made exactly for that.

doing the sme as me. I used at first a Flowtech Warlock muffler which is a S tube design with a spot for a cutout. Let me tell you, craftsman ship sucked on it. Damn thing started leaking around the cutout pipe that goes into the muffler and the welds didn't look much better then mine, and mine are not that great!

Anyways im looking into the Borla XR-1 my self with a couple other resonators that I already have on. It will be flanged as well. Incase it doesn' work out. It is steel wool packed though instead of fiberglass which is good

Borla xr-1 is not packed with rockwool or fiberglass. Its packed with ss wool just like RB

Fero313 and Garfinkle are using an XR-1 and they sound great. And Garfinkle has had his for a long time, pushing 400+ HP in his FD, with no issues.

I voted for RB however since that is what I'm running!

Downpipe/header > HF cat > presilencer > single-outlet 100mm tip stainless can muffler = win

praying that it wont be as loud...

rbheader, rb presilence, jic spartan de... no silencer...

ATLEAST the jic has a resonator inplace right behind the presilencer... so thats 3 little resonators i presume total in my car.. hope this works. lol

Your eardrums are going to bleed.

JIC exhausts usually have huge piping and tips... and are designed to be loud on a turbo, much less NAs...

I wouldn't use a canister muffler without at least two silencers...

I don't think it will be that loud at all but for what it worth, I had on my n/a, Manifold, rx7.com race pipe w/resonator, y pipe then 2 ebay cans. It was VERY loud before the I put the race pipe on but after that, it quieted right down. Although after a few hundred miles the resonator burnt out and it became loud again.

The exhaust I have now has a muffler and 2 resonators which at first was very quiet but the muffler has burn out (fiberglass packed I found out) and now the resonators, which are fiberglass too but are further down the exhaust stream seem to be doing the rest of the job to keep the exhaust as quiet as possible.

I am using the RB downpipe/ presilencer on my NA with stock mufflers.....no worries about dragging the big-*** aftermarket mufflers against the driveway. Very quiet too.

Of course, any exhaust that makes it so you can't talk to the girl next to you while driving normally is too loud, IMO...

My car is right on the edge between too loud and not loud enough... Not sure what the pipe diameter is though (it might be stock piping, but it has a pre-cat eliminator).

Been there, done that...

I've ran the RB Presilencer, ran a bonez free flow, and ran the Borla XR-1.
Speaking from experience, GO WITH THE Borla XR-1!
The RB Presilencer isn't all that, it hardly even quiets the exhaust.
As for the Borla, I can't say enough about it! I ordered the XR-1 (Part#BOR-40942) and had some flanges welded on. Summit lists the overall lengh as 17 inches but that is not correct. The bonez free-flow cat and the RB pre-silencer replacement measure in at 20 3/4". I actually had to CUT some of the tubing OFF of the XR-1 in order to add the flanges and have it measure up to the same length.

THANK YOU!

I was really hoping it would do what I would want it to do and you just confirmed it.

Borla Zr-1 comes in different lengths I believe so maybe you ordered the longer one....

Sure that's not a good thing?
I would say it IS a good thing at times, but I would actually rather hear my girls voice over the loud, obnoxious, smelling exhaust anyday.

Typo. I just looked at the summit racing site and there are 2 XR-1 mufflers with 2.5" in and out. One has a case length of 12" while the other more expensive one has a case length of 16". Both say the overall length is 17". Judging from Soma's responce, I bet the 12" case one is 17" and the 16" case one is 21" long.

Yeah, that would make sense to me. The one I installed has a case lenth of 16".
I cut off the flanges from my pre-cats and used those as they were still in perfect condition. The smell of unburned exhaust gas insn't soo appealing but your car will sound nice!! The alternative would be to run a free-flow cat, you'll get the same performance but it will still be pretty damn loud.
