Power Windows ....
Last night my power window stopped working, right now it's to damn cold to leave it down much longer just looking for a quick dirty way to get the power window back up with very limited tools... all i have at my disposal right now is a screwdriver :/ is there anything that i can do to get this window back up? I think the portion of the switch that puts the driver side window up fried, cause everything else works fine (the plastic on the switch broke months ago) so i have had the switch hanging out of the door directly using the switch., Once it warms up a little bit i'll worry more about getting this fixed better but for the time being, i just need to get the window up before some bad weather comes through.....

There are two wires running from each window switch to the motor. If you apply voltage to one wire and a ground to the other wire then the window should move either up or down. If you reverse the wires then the window should move in the opposite direction. So if you by chance apply voltage to one wire and a ground to the other and the window doesn't move then switch the wires and it will move. Also, any metal will not provide a proper grounding source so if the window motor doesn't run and you switch the wires and it still doesn't move then the ground source is "probably " at fault or the Window fuse is blown and needs replacement.

To clarify something I mentioned earlier related to the Window fuse. If you use a voltage source not provided by the power window circuit to power the window motor then the fuse can be shot, but the motor would still work because you're in this case using an outside source of voltage, and thus bypassing the fuse. If you used the battery for the power source that would bypass the fuse, be it blown or not, and it wouldn't affect the operation of the window motor at all. Lastly, you should of course check the condition of the Window fuse in the interior fuse box.

the fuse shouldn't be blown, i can still control the passenger side window from the driver side, and was able to put the driver side window down further (you know how it goes trying to make something go one way it won't work, try the other direction)... it's just down on the switch so i have a feeling that portion of the switch is shot maybe.. prolly need a whole new switch at this point to perm fix it.
