about that, the ps bracket is juss like 3 - 4 bolts and are ez reach if u remove the battery and have a cheater bar.
the ac in the other hand, is kinda tricky because the bolts that bolt on to the ac extends ALL the way to the block so u cant just take out the bolts, u have to remove the ac with the bolts still on the ac.. get what im saying?
yeh that part was a bitch though. one of the most bitchest part on my list for when u remove ur engine.

I had a manual rack in my '87 base and loved it. Turning at a stand still isn't that big of a deal, get some muscles.
I know how the speed sensitive power steering and I'm not sure I want to get rid of it. I've got a manual rack laying around and seriously considering the swap but I dunno. It's a tough call. I would like a cleaner, easier to work with engine bay.

Well luckily my A/C was already gone and the batt. mounted in the pass. storage bin. I've been driving my '90 TII without it for a couple of days now and it's not harder, but the de-powered rack leaves me wanting better sesponse or something; it just feels sluggish. My DD is a MK1 MR2 with manual steering and it feels so much better, but it's probably also because the wheels are only 195 width versus 215 on my RX-7.

http://www.mavalgear.com/ is the best way to do it.
keep your 15.7:1 or whatever PS ratio, don't get the crap 20:1 manual rack ratio.
They make it just like a real manual rack, weld teh quill shafts solid which give it 3 degrees of slop to activate the power steering. Then they pack it w/ grease and close her up.
No looped line, no power steering fluid. How a manual rack should be
Costs $165-215 as I've seen different prices. They may have raised it a tiny bit. $60 more if you don't have a core.
This is what I'm going w/
Don't think of doing it the "cheap" way, but think that the money goes doing it the right way plus your 20 year old rack and pinion would be nice with a fresh rebuild. Yes?

Well I don't think they actually do anything to the gears, and honestly I've never felt the steering to be anything but immediate and responsive. IMHO it's not really wirth it, if you're concerned with the pinion shaft, take it to a local welder and get them to weld it up for you, it'll be much cheaper and it'll acheive the same thing.
