Power Steering Rack Seal question

In the process of de powering my S4 powersteering rack. Everything is out, the Quill is welded, the seal on the rack removed, but what is puzzeling me is there never seemed to be a seal, a support or anything on the drivers side machined recess on the rack. There is the "Rack Support" and the pinion supporting it very near by but nothing on the very end of the rack. On the passenger side there was a support and a seal. But nothing on the drivers side. Is this right? This particular rack came from a parts car that was wrecked so it could've been tampered with. Any help is appreciated. I checked the FSM but found nothing conclusive.

I'm saying NO so the inner tie rod end can get in that little recessed space. Also what I'm seeing in the FSM and the Fiche looks to be the seal that is basically centered in the rack. Also there is no fluid over there, just the nasty grease for the pinion. My logic says no but someonw with som experience chim in please as I have no faith at all in this rack. Thanks.
