power steering issue

Hi,

I thought my rx7 was finally problem free but i found a new one.

As far as i remember i've always had a weird feeling when manoeuvering a low speed and steering at full lock. Like a sort of pulsation in steering wheel.

recently it happens much more often than ever. I even feel that it happens while driving normally.

I've checked my power steering belt. It's completely worn out. it's distanded, the threads on the sides start to come off and it looks bad in general. I've ordered a new one and set the pulley to have back some tension in the belt while waiting the new one.

i'm a bit scared has i was missing around 25cl of liquid in the pump tank., i've refilled it. Yesterday i took the car for a spin and the problem is not solved.

I'm afraid it could be one (or more) of the seals in the steering rack that is also worn out and as such, the liquid pressure is not constant and is leaking (hence the pulsation and the missing liquid).

Is it a known problem with some specific how-to to fix it ?
i'm not an excellent mechanic... Is it something hard to work on ?

I'm also thinking about maybe depowering the steering rack but is the car still drivable on everyday road after ? the car is heavy but as the center of greater is more or less centered of the car, i wonder how it will behave...

Well, figure out where it's leaking from. If you are missing fluid, the pump is then adding air into the system which will give you a pulsation when steering is active. You need to stop the leak either by replacing the hose it's leaking from or plug it up wherever it is. You'll need to bleed the system as well since it sounds like you have air in the system. It's also a good idea to keep a good belt on it.
