Power Loss While Braking (Still)

88 SE

I was having a problem while I'm driving with my lights on, and having my stereo playing, when I push down the brakes, my voltage goes down 2-3 volts. When this happens, my stereo starts to fade and/or cuts out for a second.

I just added 2 ground wires. One going from the Alternator to the battery, and one going from the body (under the spark plug input (coil?) near the batery) to the battery.

Still have the problem.

Should I get my battery and/or Alt. tested?

what voltage does your car have when idleing w/ the head lights on?

It should be 13.5

Any lower, and chances are that you have a bad alt, or bad connections to the alt.

Thx guys.

What do you have included in the stereo? Amps and subs??

You might need a capacitor.

My voltage drops alot too when braking or with the lights on, etc. I have an S5 alternator and a new battery. I am going to go for an FD alternator soon here or have mine rewound or whatever so its alot stronger.

You will probabaly have to remove your alt. to get it tested. At least that is how we did it at advance.
