Just over $13K so far. That is no labor costs, I did everything myself including the engine rebuild and the paint job. Only thing I did not do myself is my Turbo rebuild/upgrade.

This message would be 2 pages long if I did it that way.

Mint Factory Condition 88 TII = $6,500
Engine/exhaust/fuel/haltech ect = $13,000+
Sound Sytem = $9,500

Expensive yes, But everything is done the way I wanted it done and done the right way. Only lacking a paint job now.

$9500.00 Sound system is just insane! I must see what makes a $9500 stereo system. I have installed many many systems. Multiple amps, X-overs, Subs, Caps, .. top of the line systems and never payed over $3k.

I don't know what you consider top of the line, but damn... that isn't that hard.
Top of the line speakers from alpine, just for front full range (complete with x-over's etc.) are $1000. Then add another $1000 for the back.
then you need amps to drive them. $400 each, wiring $100
Dvd player w/indash screen -$2000.
thats $4500 allready, not including low-end or caps, battery's, enclosures, alternators.

I was talking about stereo equipment, a fukin DvD player in a 2 seater sports car is nothing but and not stereo exuipment in my mind. So yes add up what you said $3k is about right, minus the 27" drop down LCD DvD player.

seriously ... who/how/why a DvD player in a sports car?

who said 27" drop down lcd dvd player?

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N

this is a head unit. this is also a dvd player. and surprisingly (like I said) an in-dash screen. These are not an uncommon thing.

edit: the "who how why in a sports car?" question. I think a who how why should be asked about putting subwoofers in a spports car.

lets see....

1600 for 88TII with dying engine
200 for turbo back exhaust and AFM and some other things as well
2500 for rebuild(new housings etc.)
4-500 in misc parts and such
CAR SET ON FIRE BY SOME ******* *******!
250 for '90 GXL with bad auto tranny
hopefully I can recover by summertime.(I'm away from home now, at college)

so somewhere around 4950 so far. I am expecting another 4-500 in parts to get the GXL running right with the turbo engine and drivetrain/rearend

I was being facetious about the 27" LCD.

Subwoofers are at least music, and should be a part of any quality sounding stereo system. You don't need 4 15's .. just 1 or 2 good quality subs for the low end bass, properly dialed in .. not just bass on top of bass. Also my subwoofer can easily be removed for Auto-X or any weight reduction needs.

right on rpeck it doesnt make any sense to me to weigh down a nimble sportscar with 100's of lbs of permanently instaled stereo equipment. i have a 10" sub in an enclosure i can pull out in 10 sec. if i feal like it (gota find a way to strap it down tho) and a small d-class amp. i spent about 1k and did all the instalation myself. it sounds damn good, sure its not a competition dominator but im at the point where id have to start shreding up my car to make it sound better and i cant even hear all the nuance its capable of over the exhaust while im driving anyway. i just listen to it while im parked cus parent/roomates dont like loud music indoors.

BTW - Dont do what I did, save your money. Now Im thinking of selling my car for 12,000 and as you can see Id be taking a major hit for that price.

Edit: Whats even crazier is that I spent all of this money within the last year and my car is still in the garage with brand new parts on it.

whats the problem? Start driving the thing, you will enjoy it alot more. I had the same thoughts once upon a time ... It's a given though anytime you modify any car .. you are not going to get out of it what you put into it. Cars as old as ours that holds especially true. I knew this ahead of time, and even if I decided I wanted another ride I would not sell this one, it will be mine forever, just to much blood, sweat, tears, $ and time into it to even consider selling it. Plus it's entirely paid for I would just hang onto it and get another vehicle if thats what I wanted. Though I have an *** load of vehicles anyways now

Shipping 800
Tires 250

Intake 50
Exhaust 30
s5 tails 200
Speakers 40

total of 3290 just a little over blue, not bad for all the enjoyment it gives me.

I wrote down a list for my T2 to turn it into what I want it to be and it was around 20grand, that's when I decided to sell them both and get an FD.

Car (purchased 6 years ago) $4500
Rebuild, streetport, install-$1500
Bodykit-$1200
Bodywork, Paintjob-$4000
I don't even know about mods. Considering brake upgrades, 2 sets of wheels, tires, sway bars, springs, struts, bushings, 2 exhaust systems, short shifter, lights, gauges, clutch, flywheel, misc. engine parts, stainless steel oil & brake lines, re-upholstered leather seats and doors, fully upgraded black interior. Countless hours of work, Damn. Im pretty sure Im forgetting stuff too.

I would have to say that including the car, about $17,000 has been spent on it to make it what it is currently. This isn't including any repairs or **** that I did to it before the engine blew and I started over again on it. This car is an N/A too. Its kind of weird looking back and realizing you could have bought a nice FD for all that money. Oh well, It will be a sweet *** NA.
