Possible to lay your own carpet?

I removed my shitty carpet, and my sound deadening material, now i want to lay down my own carpet without putting the deadening back (weight reduction).
I have a vert, and i removed a bunch of **** from the back, so its totally empty, and you can see straight through to the trunk (its pretty cool).
I cant buy a carpet kit because the interior is now a different shape, so what I'm asking: Is laying my own carpet doable? Has anybody else done this? if so, can i have some pictures?
Thanks

It's doable, my dad it such a thing a long time ago when I was a kid. Just buy some carpet and cut as you go.

I understand weight reduction, but I would NEVER take sound deadening out of a 'vert. Why turn an excellent cruising car into a noise/rattle machine?

Anyway, don't try to lay your own carpet - it won't look right. I'm sure there are tons of places to buy aftermarket carpet sets that are molded to the car for proper fitment. It's probably not expensive either...I think Victoria British offers a kit that is like $200 for the front and $100 for the rear.

You can do it yourself. Won't be easy, but no big deal. I took out all the stuff for my TII and I created new side panels and carpet to cover the bin area, back, etc. I haven't taken pics of it, unfortunately....but I wanted to say that you can.

You mean laying unmoulded carpet, or pre-formed? I put new preformed black carpet in mine recently...it was fairly easy and came out nice. If you are thinking of taking flat carpet and redoing the interior, I would think again unless you have alot of experience. Just go buy the preformed kind. BTW don't get Victoria British carpet...it fits horrible. I got mine from a company called ACC.

It's gonna be hard to make it NOT look like a DIY job. How is the interior a different shape? Try an interior shop - for a small car like the FC it won't cost much. We use a custom interior place out here that specializes in Marine jobs. They do fantastic work for cars as well hehe

Funny that this came up. I am in the middle of soundproofing the whole car, and bought the Victoria British "molded" carpet set. The **** isn't molded at all. It is just random pieces of cut to fit carpet, no tabs, no mounting holes, nothing. I am sending it back because it sucks so bad. What is this ACC company? I'd like to find something from them.

Here's thier web site:

http://www.accmats.com/

These also don't come with mounting holes or tabs (I've never heard of any carpet coming with these though), but the fit is excellent. Mine looks like it came from the factory with this carpet. The kit even comes with the carpet pieces that go on top of the storage bins.

I am trying to find something that fits just like the factory carpet. That has mounting tabs that go all around the speaker towers and everything. What Victoria British sent was basically just a box of carpet, that doesn't look like it is going to fit all that well.

i would think finding carpet for the rear would be a lot harder that the front because the rear is molded a lot more than the front

Eh? The front is actually much more molded than the back.

I am doing the same with my vert here in a few days but first I am getting so rust stopper by the floor boards that are getting a little orange. Also I plan on using some roll on bed liner to stop rust forever and help with some of the vibration noise from the exhaust. And depending on how that looks I might put the carpet back in. Might look cool with bed liner and all the plastic put back on. I have been doing these things on the car ever so often and I am running out of outside work weather here shortly.

Well I just soundproofed the whole interior with FatMat, I mean I applied the **** on everything. Actually turned out lighter than what I ripped out of the car. It's just that the VB carpet set I ordered is just carpet, no molding, no tabs, no velcro, no holes for the tranny extension housing, nothing.
