Possible fix to an old problem! Ice...opinions?

Okay. I was discussing this earlier and trying to get some opinions.

I had an 87 that idled at 4000rpm...only. HAd no idea what was wrong. But I have an idea, now.

First, Icemark, as you suggested, upon tearing down the manifolds I found a lot of pitting and there was actually some gouges in the part that bolts to the dynamic chamber. One of the gouges was 1/8" deep!!! I never seperated these two pieces, aparently some one tried to remove the gasket with a grinder, it got knocked loose somehow during all the moving I was giving it. I don't know that it was actually leaking but it's possible.

Anyways..busted out the sander, took and 1/8" off the scarred side, then lapped it. Then did the same to the other side (lapped, didn't take any off). Should be good.

Now, another thing that was giving me **** was when I tried to give the car any gas it revved up like it was trying to spin a bunch of dead weight, and it vibrated terribly. Discovered two things...

The flwheel is an S5 flywheel (I think, I'll know for certain tomorrow) that got put on because I thought the S5 wheel would have to go on the motor to work in an S5 body...long different story. But I'll have another S4 flywheel available soon.

Secondairy injectors only kick in when nearing WOT or above 4000+/- rpm. I think that might be something as well. What would keep the secondairies from kicking on?

I can't say anything about the rest, but I do believe that the secondaries aren't supposed to kick in until WOT (~5k???).. I think

Secondaries come on between 3800 and 4200 depending on load and throttle pressure.

Sounds like you may have found all the problems. Don't forget to re-adjust your TPS when you are all done.

And the secondaires shouldn't be coming on until just about 3800 for a S4 (common reason for the regrounding the ECU and engine to solve the 3800 hestitation problem).

Yeah, tomorrow the ECU comes out so that I can inspect all the solder points and do the reground thing...pending my finding of a good write-up. Also need a good write-up on setting the TPS...damn I wish I knew about this forum 2 years ago!!! I'd still have a nice RX7...

So does anyone know where a write-up is for the S4 TPS? Or where in the haynes book it is?
