Posible Stuck Injector - Need Comfirmation
Both cars have been sitting for a extended period of time. One of the cars *91 gxl* the car will hardly start, only if the pedal is to the floor.. then it wont idle, if you mash gas it backfires like CRAZY and smokes like crazy, if you let off gas it dies. The 88 Gxl will only start if i remove plugs, pull egi and fully deflood it.. put plugs back in and will fire the first time, same deal.. backfiring, tons of smoke, wont idle. I am thinking I got stuck primaries just need confirmation. Another thing that is confusing me is the 88 gxl should have the purple injectors but they are red/orange instead.. Anyone who can give me any direction id I appreciate it.
Edit for the record both motors have great compresion and the smoke is indeed fuel..

sounds like it but there is no confirmation on the net since the car is not in front of us.
i would start by checking over visually all of the sensor connections and be sure the MAF and MAP are plugged in, replace the fuel filter and lastly have the injectors cleaned and balanced.

Pull the fuel rail...
Get help from friend...
Crank the engine over...
If the primaries are leaking, it'll be obvious.

The purple ones are only for 1987 Turbo II's.

Well im guessing the primaries in the s4 are fine.. they both give a nice solid shot of fuel once a second or so one after the other.. I dont know what the hell to do, this s4 wont start without pulling egi fuses, plugs and turning over and puting them right back in.. then it will only start the first time after pulling plugs.. wont idle, you can rev it and such.. same as s5 onces its started you can rev it to keep it alive but it stalls otherwise.. any idea?

Sounds like one primary is not firing....either because of a bad injector, a bad connection at the injector, or a bad ecu. When you tested the injectors, did you leave them in the rail as ted described and crank the car, and they both fired? was the pulse strong and shot fuel out evenly? I have seen clogged injectors (from rusty tanks) fire, but drip very little instead of spraying forcefully.
Perform an injector volume test as described in the FSM for each primary injector...this gives you a good chance to measure flow as well as observe spray pattern and check for leakage. You might want to check the secondaries as well, if one of those is leaking it could be flooding the engine.
I swear the s5 car sounds like no compression on one rotor.

I'd say bad injectors, low compression, or a combination of the two. I'd pull the connectors off the injectors and apply 12v to them and listen if they click. Next plug them back in and test for voltage at the injector while the car is running. You could also pull the fuel rail and visually check the spray pattern, but If your going to take it apart that far I would just send the injectors out to be serviced. Order new insulators from mazda before you put it all back together as the rubber is surely in bad shape by now. And yes, the injectors should be reddish-orange. Not purple. Do a compression test too.

The s4 is now running, cleaned the injectors and checked em for leaky injector systoms and such. The car will start every turn now, still wont idle for more than 30 seconds, smoking a good bit but smells posibly like old fuel or something, the small amount of idle it gives its seaking so im guessing its got a vacuum leak somewhere posibly. Maybe we can get it running fully tomorow.. I mean the car hasnt ran in 3 years so im asumming some good build up and crap

Why not just take all the manifolds off and replace every gasket and hose, and inspect the parts along the way? It obviously needs it anyway, and this won't cost more than $25 and a day's labor or 2. You can do emissions removal and simplification at the same time. Then your list of suspects is narrowed to a few sensors and injectors.
