Porting?
I'm bored. Here are some randon pics of one of one of my porting experiments. *disclaimer* don't use this port outline unless you know what you are doing! The secondary / aux partition ate my side seals, so I ground it down 5mm below the iron surface.
So yeah, this thread is FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY, to all you professional skeptics out there.
This pic shows how I finally determined what the side seals see in a running engine when they get near the port openings. A plexiglass template. Note the opening side seal's tip is about 1mm inside the port opening edge while the closing side seal's tip will just barely miss running into this port opening edge. Also note the scissor angle between the closing side seal and the aux port's closing edge. VERY important!
This is my latest primary port. It's that big because I kept having to grind up in order to get a good scissor angle with the closing side seal. Another angle:
I started a porting practice thread a long time ago when I was just learning how to grind ports, here is a follow up thread I guess. I've learned MANY ways to mess up an otherwise ripping motor by side seal failures due to port shapes not being right.
*Entertainment purposes only!*

A couple of my exhaust ports. Latest one is in the back, and it is 2mm higher and 4mm lower than stock, perhaps 1-2mm wider. Exhaust porting really changed the power band (a lot more power up high in the rpm band), while intake porting seemed to just enhance the stock power band.
*don't take a grinder to your ports unless you're in it for life! **** happens to those who modify their wankels!*

Here is a one of my latest secondary / aux ports. Yes you can go this big and not lose midrange torque. From about 2k on up I have stock torque if not more. The key is to not hog out the runners leading up to the ports, just smooth them and enlarge them *slightly*.
The partition between the two ports had about two degrees of scissor angle to the closing side seals, which was way too little. This port ate a side seal because of this one day when I wound up fourth to 130 on a country road.
I disassembled the motor and ground down the partition about 5mm below the iron's side surface to eliminate its interaction with side seals but keep the port bowl, and the motor has been trouble free so far, my fingers are crossed.
There is a lot more to know about porting but I won't write what I know because someone will call BS and **** me off.
*don't try ANY of this at home*
