poor man's cold air box - water heater insulation!

me and my buddy were thinking....why not use water heater insulation for a cold air box?

you'd only need to build a skeleton to support it and then line the skeleton with the water heater insulation.

it sounds like a good idea since 1 - building a skeleton doesn't sound overly hard to do and 2 - they sell water heater insulation in gigantic rolls. if you screw up, you've got lots of it lying around to make another one.

i'm guessing water heater insulation is a much better insulator than thin aluminum also.

i haven't even attempted this yet, but having just insulated my water heater, i'm gonna try it real soon. any thoughts or ideas?

Hehe Its been done to death but I haven't seen an insulation used. My old heat shield was Carbon Fiber and it is nice and all. But I just decided to make the ultimate.

I just fell out of my chair laughing at this. Sorry for the hijack.

(OK I better actually contribute something...)

Why doesn't anyone double up the layers of aluminum for a cold air box, and pack the inside with insulation? That way it would just look like a "Thick" cold air box, but it would be insulated.

would the difference really be that much with insulation. i mean if you have cold air comming into the box at all times the intake temps would not be all that much significantly difficult
