please help!!! vw bug with 13b fi swap
howdy! i have a 66 bug, blown motor, and found out about the rotarys and heard some people talkin about swaps, well i got myself a motor its out of an automatic 1991 13b, i see 4 spark plugs, thats all i know.. (not rotary enclined yet...) and well, i need some assistance with the all the "rat nest" stuff for emissions. im planning on using the entire wiring harness, cpu and all, maybe even the gauges and stuff (depending on how difficult it is, or if i even need to run the whole harness)and it gonna be bolted right up to my stock tranny with a few upgrades and adaptor plate... im new to rotary and was told to come on here and i would get expert advice... any hints, any thing you could think of that would go wrong, please help!!! i mainly wanna get rid of all the un necessary junk on the motor, as i have a 66 bug, it doesnt have to be emissions tested, get the drift... well thanks in advance i hope to hear back soon... Nick

go here for emissions removal information. there is also other useful information stored there.. one thing you might want to know is automatic trans suck for rotary powered vehicles..

well it came off a 91 rx-7, its a fuel injected 13b thats pretty much all i know about them, and i needed it out of an auto because of the counterweight, long story, but if you look up like rotary to vw swap or whatever, itll tell you all about it.. something to do with the flywheel, cause im not using the mazda tranny, im using stock vw, with stage 2 pressure plate, and adaptor to go from 13b to vw tranny with no problems, i can run radiator lines and get the thing bolted up to my car, but im wondering since you guys are the rotary people, if it was worth it to run all electrical from rx-7, or if i could just somehow use the engine wiring harness and like somehow hardwire it to vw wiring(which is all brand new as of like 2 years ago) but im not sure... ive looked up stuff for wiring and swaps and everything but people used some aftermarket microtech standalone system and i just dont have the money, i figure if i need it i got the comp. and harness, but didnt want the headache... so yeah, any ideas? if you guys could, could you pm me, so it can go to my email, as this thing is confusing and dont know how to check this thread other than searching, or whatever, up to yall, but i appreciate the help. that webside helped too thank you! stuff like that...

You'll need to get a copy of the wiring diagrams from the Haynes or FSM (see FAQ). From there you can look at the emissions harness and decide what you can loose vs. what you can keep. Best bet is to strip the harness to the point where you only have the necessary wires for the AFM, idle adjust pot, injectors, temp sensors, TPS, CAS and coils. I've done this before with the S4 stuff but never the S5. I suspect it's just as easy.
As for the rats nest, search "emissions removal" and check the FAQ.
