please help 89 convertible turbo swap
ok i have a 1989 rx7 convertible with a blown N/A engine in it
im getting a 13B Mazda RX7 Single Turbo Engine only 89-91
it comes with
Complete Motor
Complete Head and Block
Intake Manifold
Distributor
Injectors
Fuel Rail
Power Steering Pump
Throttle Body
Exhaust Manifold
Alternator
Turbo
and i am wondering if i will need to get anything else for it to do the swap
will i need to get any kind of wiring harness or ecu .. just anything else i would need.
and will i have to upgrade my exhaust at all? i have an aftermarket exhaust but not sure what kind specifically

I'd be afraid. The rotary doesnt have heads or a block so you're obviously getting it from a Japanese junkyard importer. I did the same thing and ended up with a pile of junk and had to do a complete rebuild. Cost a fortune in dollars and time.
Oh, and if you're thinking it has a 30 day warranty and they did a compression test... they dont know how to do a compression test on a rotary and if they do they do they probably didnt and lied about it. Plus the shipping is several hundred dollars and they won't refund that even if they are willing to send you a new engine.
If you haven't bought it yet, I'd check with Japan2LA on the board here and see what he has. He knows rotaries dont have heads and blocks and won't sell you a rusted out PoS.
There are several write-ups in the 2nd Gen archives on doing the swap.
Good luck,
Jim

for the price of that motor I would only buy it with the intention of rebuilding, not installing it and running.

I bought my rusted out PoS from them.
And there seems to be consensus that the mileage claims are simply untrue. And even if they were, that engine would have been decomposing in a junkyard for 10 years. Mine looked like it had been.
And no warranty on it. So if it is like mine was when it arrived, you are SoL.

btw, tearing down and rebuilding the engine can be an enjoyable project.
Our NA was grossly down on power but functional. We put the manual tranny in first and that gave my son access to a lot more of the power the NA was able to provide.
He drove it like that while we tore down and rebuilt the Tii over many, many months. It was a good time especially since he was growing up and leaving me. That meant there was no pressure to get the Tii done and scrounging parts like the N370 ECU can take a while.
We were lucky (I guess) in that the only part of the barrel that was bad was the front iron. But as far as you know that engine thru a seal and destroyed one of the rotor housings or all three irons are rusted out beyond salvation.
