Please help, 86 Is Flooded Again!!!

This car recently had new hi-flo cat w/slightly larger pipes put on. (replaced original precat system). Took into Mazda shop and they found marine plugs in the engine!! Don't know how the hell or who the hell did it!! Also had old wires.

Anyways, had the plugs replaced w/new plugs, wires. This seemed to help with the jerking problem between 2500 and 4000 rpms which started after the exhaust was put on. Thinking the cat and pipes couldn't have caused that, we asked for the tune up. Which is when we found out about the boat plugs!!

Brought car home today and when I went to restart it, it is flooded again. I know how to do the deflood procedure and I am at work, so I guess I'll do it again once I get home. FRUSTRATED

Just curious if anybody thinks that the new cat may have caused this? Could the flooding happen after new plugs and wires are placed in? Any ideas? thank you, thank you thank you

I doubt the new cat is causing flooding problems. Most times the causes are:

1. Faulty sensor (Thermosensor, IAT, etc).
2. Low compression
3. Leaky injector
4. Not letting the car warm up before shutting it down again

Does low compression mean the engine is dying?

Is a compression test the best idea?

Well, I am a big fan of doing the easy stuff first.

I would (in this order):

1. Inspect area where the aforementioned work was performed. Look for loose stuff..
2. Inspect/re-clean plugs
3. Check codes
4. Compression test

If all those look good, then it points to the injectors. Here you have 2 options. You can get the H-Bleeder from Mazdatrix, or you can have your injectors professionally cleaned and flowed.

Thanks JRAT, I appreciate the help. I think the guy at the mazda shop wants the car, and I don't trust his advice. Everytime I take it to him he wants to buy it, and I get a weird feeling about what he's telling me.

Again, thanks for your time.
