this guy has a 88 rx7 turbo that he is selling, it has a blown motor and a rebuilt title. he is offering it to me at 900.00 is that a good deal or should it be lower?

I'd only do it if he PAID ME to take it, one mans trash (or in this case rebuilt trash) is not another mans rx7!! (just a headache in the end really)

it's probably a nightmare car with a bunch of screwed up wiring and everything going to ****, it'll be an uphill climb to make it a clean car again. It might be a good starting point for a race car though.

Why does everyone automatically assume a rebuilt title means a car or bike was run over by 2 trains and then hacked back together by Goober and his cousin Darryl in their back yard?

It might have just had fender and light structural damage and it could have even been fixed properly by someone who knows what they are doing.

Just look it over real well.

I have seen some repaired very poorly and some where a rear clip was replaced and even on a lift you could never spot where it was cut. Just depends on who does the work.

I bought a 2001 Aprilia Mille RSV1000 bike that had a salvage title and the only damage was a broken rear wheel, crushed muffler and broken front brake lever and a little rash on the plastic. No frame, fork or swingarm damage.

Don't just write it off due to a rebuilt title. Try to find where the damage was and see how well it was repaired. I do agree that $500 would be a correct price though, considering the blown engine.

It's because it has a blown motor and a rebuilt title. If it had a rebuilt title and he could drive the car nspect everything in working condition, that's different.

That is only partially true and rather misleading.

It depends on how old and what the book value of the car was when it was wrecked and the claim made..

If a car is less than 5 years or so old then yeah, usually a salvage title means frame damage because the price to repair the frame and then replace all the sheet metal, trim, lights, brackets and possibly suspension components and paint makes it beneficial for the insurance company to just total it than repair it.

If the car is old and has a low book value, most any minor damage can warrant it being totaled by the insurance company. Hell, you figure if a $2000 book value car needs just a fender, hood, bumper cover, headlight bucket, turn signal lens and paintwork, it's a good chance that car will get a salvage title with absolutely no structural damage at all.

Don't take my word for it though. As a hobby, I have bought and sold about 200 cars and been to hundreds of insurance auctions.
