Plan to dump $10,000, but knows not where to start...
Hey guy's.. Im the new kid on the block, and have limited knowlegde of what everything is about. I brought this 88 rx7 vet., and would like to nurse it to health. I've already fixed the body entirely, and is waiten to coat it with an awesome combination. Ive so many av's to take, but really is unaware of that which is most momentuous. I've attended automotive school, but was taught nothing about rotary . I've a fuel economy problem...well, put it like this, ITS RUNNING TO RICH! With in about 30mins, the fuel is at half, from a full tank...a bit exagerration, but you get the pic. The clutch slips, and the powersteering continuesly runs low. Ive in need of changing the belts, but luckly the engine "prrss" like a cat. Even with all the probs. and all, I still love my rx7, would trade it for nothing and plan to dump $10,000 on it.
*Major tune up done
*Body repaired
*New RadioAnd still so fare to go... HHHHEEEELLLPP My fellow "7" enthusiast....

spend the 10k on one already built, you can get a damn nice FC for 10k if you look in the right places and do your homework. from the sound of it you have a long road ahead..
now if i had a dollar for every newbie who came here and said they had plans of dropping $10k into their car...
i don't even have that much into my car in close to 2 years and TONS of upgrades/maintenance. sure you can spend it much quicker but i prefer the wiser approach.

What Karack said. You've chose the difficult road. If you actually do have that much cash to dump on a car, buy a Turbo II for less than half of what you plan to put into this one and spend the rest on mods. You'll be happier in the end, trust us.

I have never seen a turbo2 for sale or have I seen one at the junkyard before. And I use to go to the junkyard(I'm talkin about 5 junkyards) everyweekend hoping to find rx7 parts. A few months back I saw a vert in my hometown with a turbo2 engine in it but it had problems and it modded to much. I guess everything takes money

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
I still love my rx7, would trade it for nothing and plan to dump $10,000 on it.
I'd be driving a different RX-8 every day of the week.

OK, here's a plan:
You wouldn't trade your car for anything? DON'T. Take this "$10,000" and buy a TII, throw a Haltech in it and buy a TD-06 kit, FMIC, a walbro and some larger injectors.
There ya go, you now own a run down vert and a 300whp (with room to grow on the EMS) TII.........

I'll agree with everyone saying that unless you absolutely love working on cars and just have cash to burn on **** then I would just spend the 10 grand on an already nicely modded one . I decided to take the road you are considering and just buy a beat up one and go ***** to the wall on it. Well after 9 grand into it , I am kind of starting to have regrets considering , you cant see any of the money I put into it because its all underneath , it needs paint and interior work and ****. And I've probably put no more than 200 miles on it because **** still needs fixing.
If you are looking to get into modding , just buy a nice TII for like 6-7k. Because inexperience and old cars dont really mix , I've sure as hell found that out the hard way. Dont even bother setting a budget , because that **** does not work. By buying a stock one in good condition you get such benefits as having all the stupid **** already done if it was well maintained and you get to work on the good stuff. But these cars are easy as hell to work on when it comes to the basics , the engine and electrical stuff is obviously more tricky but comprehendable.
Last word of advice if you do decide to go ***** the wall with yours , make some local friends that know rx7s. Without that I would still be trying to finish my TII swap.
Oh and definetly TII swap into the vert. They are badass , nothing like raping it with the top down.

I can understand not wanting to go too far....
But I mean, we all know the people in our local area right? How many people drive a desirable TII? Of those people (for me its 1) how many are selling said desierable TII - NONE.
So you have to expect to travel a bit to pick up a nice car...my 87 TII with 116,000kms I bought was an hour and half trip, not BAD - but still.......don't expect to find one 10 minutes down the road....
