MI Piece of metal on the front of clutch fan

Hey guys i recently did a TII swap and when i pulled off the clutch fan i noticed that the strip of metal that goes on the front of the fan (which i believe is made out of some sort of tempered metal)i bent it a little, now around 4500 rpms my engine starts squealing. so i flattened the piece back down and the squealing went away. after that my fan started to disintegrate and i started busting blades off left and right. im wondering if this piece of metal is tells the fan how much to work to do in relation to your rpms and everything. i would appreciate it if anyone could help me or point me in the direction of where to buy this piece because i just bought a new clutch fan (very long story for another thread) and the new one didnt come with one so therefore i am getting the squealing noise again.

I also do believe that it could be the water pump is going bad and the fan is just putting an extra load on the engine causing the squeal simulating a belt squeal.

Let me know,
~Andrew

That is the clutch fan thermostat. You'll nee to buy a new fan clutch now. That piece of metal bends in relation to temperature and moves a valve. If you physically distort the metal strip, it doesn't funtion correctly anymore.

Was there a reason to bend around on something that you didn't understand or were you just havin' fun?
Some other fun you can have with your RX7 is to bend various suspension parts back and forth, then observe the different ways the wheels roll!

Just yanking on you. You can probably get a perfectly good fan clutch over on the parts for sale section.

Good luck!

That's funny. Well I wasn't sure if that piece needed to come off and I wasn't paying any attention. Thanks for the info
