what you need to do is take out your a/c. i took out mine, and after EVERYTHING related to the a/c is gone from under the hood (i.e. - the black condensor tube thingy and radiator looking thing, and the metal hoses) there is MUCH more room to work with. you can easily fit some dryer style hose (like the japanese do) through the front bumper to the intake without cutting anything. this is what im going to attempt to do as soon as i get paid. im going to run it from the front bumper grill to the intake, and im going to cover the whole intake filter with the hose, so the only air that is going into the filter is the air from the front bumper.

Here's my idea:
Cut the radiator support mount, like they do in TII's and run a hose to a NACA duct that sits right in the mouth of the radiator.
Am i clear or do i need to elaborate some more?

One question about the fog light spaces. I do not have foglights so that space is open and I can see that it ducts cool air to my brakes. If I were to make some sort of ducting there it seems to be the shortest and most direct route for cold air. I didnt take a very good look but it appears that I will still have to cut some metal.
What kind of tool could I use to cut metal? I have a feeling everyone is gonna say dremel... I personally dont have one and have never used one but it sounds like a multipurpose tool.

That's what I was going to suggest. You have to cut some steel because there's nowhere you can run a big enough duct. Another option is to cut a hole under the pod, but that requires relocation of the washer bottle.

I beleive 'NZConvertible' when he says that the probelm is in the feeding of air to the box, not the filter.
So my question is: with attomica's basic design, what about keeping the stock snorkle entry and then also adding a duct up from the bottom as suggested? Maybe that way a smaller duct coupled with the stock in feed would provide the necessary air flow?

Dltreezan dude if you wink your headlights with the black plastic in there it will bring absoultly no air in there is no point in winking them if you dont have it out. But hey man to everyone there own if you dont like they way it looks thats fine but you dont have to say it looks like it has parkinsons. Asher wood yes thats what im planning on doing may as weel bring in the most air as possible. and can somone post that ram air setup that guy made i cant find it. im sure after he saw how it was done he would like it. it looks very clean better than some heating duct winding through your engine.

Just in case you didnt know I am still using the stock snorkel and have the lid to seal it off. I am still trying to think of a ram air type set up and have been searching. I'll keep everyone updated.

Do you think that you will be making the fibgerglass hood with the small scoop on the passengerside similar to the fd hood. That seems like the next best alternative as the location is ideal and would not interefere with any other functions. Plus it would pretty sick.

Buy a Dremel. They're not expensive, have numerous applications and can make life a lot easier when used properly. Plus, you can buy Dremel accessories and bits all day long off eBay.

finnaly found it check this out

the box looks good but needs some stripping on the top to seal to the hood and needs to take advantage of his stock air intake

Yea I have read that thread before and was very impressed. As of now I am going to be keeping the design of the box I have now and see how it is and then after if I feel I want to redo it I will. Doing something one time helps you realize what you do next time to make things simpler and better.

That's my box!

The box is now sealed. I put some high heat foam rubber on the underside of the hood, so it seals nicely.
To be honest, the stock air intake would be completely redundant now. With the 3" tubing coming in from the front of the car, there is plenty of air coming in. I believe that the stock intake could have little to no air forced into into it - at any speed. Any air that gets into the engine from the stock setup is because it was sucked in - not forced in. That route just lets the engine draw air from infront of the rad, rather than the hot air behind it. That works well with the sealed stock air box, but the cone filter would suck about 99.9999999999999999% of it's air from the hole in the bottom of the box rather than the stock snorkle. Infact, it might just serve as an escape route for all the cold air coming in from the bottom! I may be wrong, but that's what I think.

do u have any pics of what that hose thing looks like from the front? im kinda confused on where it gets its air from. is it from the large opening or the pass. side opening?
i read that thread be4 also and was thinking of doing that, i have a question tho. what did u have to remove in order to get in there. im jus trying to firgue how hard this is going to be.

in one of the pics u can see he has a cut out he was in the process of making. i wanted to ask him about it but havnt seen him on the forum in a while, dunno why.
i dont think u would even need a fiberglass hood, just cut into the steel and weld some mesh in there and paint it, im thinking of really doing this, but making a sicker design. we will see what happens

It is true that the washer bottle is located in that space, so if you want duct work you'll have to move/do without the washers. My car was equipped with the headlight washers, so I rewired and replumbed the system so that it uses that resevoir. (on the drivers side of the car) That way I can ditch the washer bottle, and still reatin the washer function.

The piping I used was 3.25" ID tubing. Using much bigger probably wont help much as the AFM has about a 2" opening. But then again, more cold air wont hurt I suppose....
As long as the box gets cold air in, and keeps hot air out, it's worth it.
