I haven't seen it and thats all that matters to me LOL. Now how did you know I've been twitling the idea of shoving a 20B with an auto in a second gen for a daily driver? Either that or I'll just be lazy and buy George's RXX-7 :-D Kneedraggers? I thought you quit racing bikes Steve? Didn't you get flicked off pretty hard once or twice?

Actually, I was going to recommend that when I felt like writing some email.
Since the ECU/transmission umbilical connection is the main drawback to most conversions, building an auto 20B FC seems like a smacker.

I'm not racing bikes, no. I still ride (a lot) and do track days, but I ride in the intermediate group and I don't push it in corner exits. As you mentioned, I did
high-side a bit a few years ago that cost me a couple years of riding. Now when I feel the need to go for lap times, it's in a cage.

I'm selling bits for KneeDraggers, not racing. We've got a race team (with the fastest club racer I've ever seen), but I'm not directly affiliated with that. I'd like to say I serve club racers but honestly, we probably sell as much stuff to mall rats.

I know, if you're going to do a street car with a 20B, why not do it the easy way and use the stock slushbox? Here's a video for you Steve LOL

I'm not sure if you all have seen this website but it's a pretty good one if you have broadband. "Mall Rats" "Street Donks" It's all the same person LOL Who is the racer you guys are sponsoring? I might know him or his Dad at least lol.

Interesting car, but the history seems a bit strange (to the current set-up). I've sent an inquiry for further information. It says it's an ex-Mazda factory racer from the IMSA days. I just don't remember that body-style or motor combo being used by the factory then. Mazda was concentrating all their efforts on the Pete Halsmer IMSA GTO 4-rotor racer then. It might be just the tube-frame chassis and such that survive from the IMSA years.

Anyway, I let you know if I get any feedback.

very interesting indeed Berny. Now I don't remeber anything about the GTO cars but I do know that Mazda only built three factory GTU cars.
One of them is in a friend of mines garage. Those three cars are whats called a "semi-tube frame" The cars had a frame welded to the firewall of the uni-body and tied into the cage. The car in question is a full tube frame and looks suspiciously like a Howe chassis to me. Now if Mazda only built three and we know where one certified copy is, that leaves two. How come right now there is 4 or 5 "Factory" race cars for sale? I can't remember who it is to talk to but Mazda knows right where all the EX works cars are and true factory cars have paperwork to prove it. Plus if you factor in that all those cars are still competitive on a National level, why would one leave the states?

Dale and Berny,
Something that I was wondering about, but was worried about mentioning for fear of letting everyone know just how dumb I am about the actual race scene, If this car is in fact a real Mazda Factory race car, and it is in Austrailia, why is the steering wheel on the right side for the US? They say they have 0 run time, except for dyno time, yet the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car for Austrailia. Am I just really FUBAR on my thinking here?

Hey Tom,

Most real race cars are set up that way. If you buy say a Riley&Scott chassis it will look just like that no matter where you are. Most right hand drive cars have the gearshift in the door sill on the right of the driver not in the center tunnel. On reading the specs on the car and looking at the pics, I'm gonna say that with a Ford tranny and the chassis up front, It's a GT-1 car or a Trams-Am car that was originally one of the Jags or a Mustang maybe. The chassis might have even been built by Huffaker Engineering out of Sears Point.

The front suspension and frame sure look like they are built to take a V-8 to me. Did that answer your question Tom?

There's a logbook. Ask for them to scan some of it. Possibly, it's a genuine article, exported to Aus, and has zero time on the new engine. Likely still has operating issues, or is very illegal for the intended class it was prepped to.

I think we can rule out an Australia domestic market car that's being passed off as a factory racer.

Regards,

Rob
