This is the engine right after I put out the fire. You can see white powder from the fire extinguisher everywhere. It was all over the interior and exterior.

Here is a pic of the engine after I removed the upper intake. The burnt wire I believe to be the wire that goes to the O2 Sensor. Any input on what that wire is would be appreciated.

Here is another pic of the engine with the upper manifold removed. I have no idea what this wire is for. Any input would be great!

Here are some of the items I have purchased to attempt to repair the engine.

The Universal Silicone Hose kit from Hose Techniques for $58.00

Won a Primary fuel rail with what looks to be a series 5 PD, along with two injectors, and the fuel lines for about $20 The pic below is the fuel lines. All items were in Very good condition!

I also got a banjo bolt from Summit but I don't think I'm gonna use that anymore.

3 ft high pressure fuel lines from NAPPA for $7.00 a ft

six clamps for about 90 cents each

had to get a vacuum cleaner to clean all that shitty powder up $30.00

All I think I need now are gaskets, orings and grommets for the injectors.

I'll probably send the injectors out .... but I haven't done that yet and am not 100% sure.

Thanks for the offer! ... I have a spare wire harness too but I would like to try and get it running with out having to change that. That might be a little too advanced for me right now.

Do you have any pics of a series 5 PD .... I haven't been able to find any. I'm sure a lot of members would benefit from your pics too!

I would not attempt to use your old harness, use your sapre. there is no telling hat wires are good or bad in the old one. the wire harness will dissconnect from the firewall passenger side of the car. and as for the fifth pic down that might be the four oil lines going into your intake for cooling. Good luck and sorry about your car. trust me i had that happen to my 86 NA

So I don't need to connect it to the CPU and run it through the firewall? If so that will make it a lot easier!

I just went and took a look at the Spare wire harness I have ..... its in two pieces. Its used and in ok condition I think. But there are some wires that are cut on it. I will check to tomorrow to see if they are wires that I need. I would hate to do all this work ... only to have to tare the top of the engine down again to change the wire harness.

I have a spare wire harness too but I would like to try and get it running with out

replacing it? DON'T DO IT!!

I also had a pulsation damper engine fire. Got the fire out right away with an extinguisher, but the harness was still damaged. Replace the wire harness, trust me.

Note, if your Rex is a 1988, then the connectors to the fuel injectors are different. That is, the guide slots are offcenter rather centered. So, if a 1988, you'll need a harness out of a 1988. Otherwise, any harness 1986-1987 will work.

More than likely you harness between the alternator and air flow meter was fried. Once you get everything apart, you just lay the replacement out the same as the old one. Only trick is have a straightened out coat hanger handy when you go to snake the harness through the firewall to your ECU. If you're lucky like I was, your main engine fuse popped before any damage was done to the ECU.

Also, replace anything that is rubber or plastic what was remotely close to the fuel rail. This repair really isn't all that difficult, just tedious.

Have fun.

Thanks ... I went out to my car today and vaccumed up all the crud and powder. It turns out the wire in the 5th pic down wasn't a wire after all but one of the oil lines. I will be replacing all 4 oil lines.

If someone can confirm that the other wire in the 4th pic down is infact the O2 sensor wire that would help a lot.

O2 wire

Hard to tell from just a picture. But, from where it's laying I'd guess that's what it is. You're best bet is trance the wire to where it joins the main harness and compare to your spare wiring harness as reference to confirm.

You probably should thing about replacing your EGR valve also since the diaphram is rubber that was probably cooked by the fire. You'll be glad you did the next time you try and have your Rex smogged. Easy replacement while you have everything apart, impossible afterward. Its the round saucer like thing you see int he upper right of the pic where you're showing the O2 sensor (?) wire.

The harness swap is easy, just time consuming.
