perma-cool, fiero, or stock
ok, currently i have a perma-cool 2950 cfm fan in my car, with all the shrouds and such, i also have a fiero fan and shroud in my living room, and i picked up a stock fan from the junkyard...my question is, i'm overheating, so which is better, i would think the perma-cool would be the best, however, i AM overheating with it, so would it be better to put the fiero fan in and take out the perma-cool, or try to reverse the motor on the fiero fan and install it in front with the perma-cool, or run the perma-cool and stock (if clearence allows), or fiero and stock, or what? please help ! lol
thanks in advance

there are a lot of different reasons for overheating.
if your car is stock, and you have a properly functioning stock fan. then it should be plenty strong enough to keep your engine cool. as far as e-fans go, i would thing a perma cool would be better than a fiero fan. try the stock fan and see if it still overheats. if it does, its likely htat your problem is elsewhere

I'd say try the fiero fan in place of the perma-cool
Putting it on in reverse will limit the air that can go into it ( even at highway speeds ) to the 16-inch circular area.
Try it... if that doesn't work, look for other problems.

thank you guys, i guess i'll get outside soon and swap out the perma-cool for the fiero fan, test drive it, if it over heats, throw in the stock fan, if it overheats, say **** it, let it overheat, and rebuild it. haha, jk lol

nope, never even seen it, its probably way overpriced though, i paid 20 bux for the fiero fan and shroud, and got the perma-cool for free...they probably want craploads of cash for the VB one...

oh, thats my problem...just kidding, i have it wired to a manual switch, only because my stock fan was screwed up, so i took it out, slapped in the perma-cool as a temporary, and just wired a switch to the inside,

Fix your overheating problem before gettin a rebuild.
It would suck to kill a rebuild because of a bad cap, thermostat, waterpump or clogged radiator.
An electric fan will NOT make up for a failed cooling system.

My perma cool fan without a shroud was enough to pull the temp down low enough to turn off my 170 degree thermostatic switch while parked when my cooling system was working. (for all of two days when doing the water seals trick) When the system was not keeping the water under pressure and without exhaust gasses in it there was no keeping that motor cool.
I suspect that you've got another bigger problem with the cooling system. This model fan has kept BB chevy race motors cool for my friends, and its the third car I've used it on myself... The perma cool is better than a fiero fan.

I've done the rad flush exactly as he describes and it didn't kill my 13B. I actually had to disconnect the e-fan (Fiero) and then rev the engine until I saw the overflow steaming (after a 25 min drive.)
And if you aren't using Red's Water Wetter, GET SOME!!!

the perma cool 16" fan can be removed from its original bracket and you could easily attach it to the factory shroud with some bar stock. Might take you all of 15 min's work. I yanked the shroud and mad some brackets for the rad side supports.

MY 16" finger chopper wasn't holding up at idle. temps were climbing while stoped. (188 to 195) I just made a half asses shroud for it tonight. I'll see what happens tomorrow. the stock fan would never go over 190 while stoped.
nothing is better then the stock one for cooling to answer the first question.

I just installed a perma-cool fan in my TII. I pulled off the crappy stocker. I got a good fan, flows 2950cfm 16" and its working great. I pulled off the stock shroud so the air can pull through then blows up on to the motor and turbo area. You need the pull and the push. My car isnt over heating so thats probley not your problem. I am thinking about reinstalling the stock fan with out the shroud and still running the perma-cool, I will lose some power but gain some more chill. good luck.
