Better suspension, nicer interior, body is better looking depending on the viewer (I view them same)

yeah they'll be slightly slower but once you hit some corners a stock fc vs fb should just shoot ahead, a n/a s4 fc is probably bout the same speed as a gsl-se, a s5 i think would be faster

Not sure, we got a 79SA never really drove it but this is what I understand

ohh you got a 12a, god no its not faster

1st gen is a blast to drive around but without suspension mods can't even try to hang with an fc in the twisties. Just my 2 cents

I have both and have really always been a bigger fan of the 2nd gen. The 1st gen just doesn't do it for me and I'll probably sell it at some point. The 2nd gen is a far more refined car. It's got a much nicer suspension and handles far better. The 1st gen has some serious flaws in it's suspension design and I'm not even talking about the solid rear axle. It has lots of oversteer which may feel fun but ultimately it doesn't make for a great handling car. They are hard to beat on autocross tracks though!

The weight differences aren't that bad. I hear people refer to the 2nd gens as heavy but since when is a 2700 lb car heavy? It's not a heavy car by any stretch of the imagination. The 1st gen is just very light. The engine in the 2nd gens is far nicer. The 12A's are extremely durable though and hard to kill.

Each car has strengths and weaknesses but the 2nd gen is always going to be far more refined and easier to live with. To me it's the difference between a sportscar design out of the 60's vs one out of the mid 80's. The 1st gen wasn't even advanced for it's day. It was basically a hash of parts and designs from a decade earlier. It's still a fun car though. If it's just pure fun you're looking for, each is nice. If you have to live with it on a daily basis, I'd say stick to a 2nd gen. While not fast by any stretch of the modern imagination, at least it doesn't have a 12A that would lose a race to the average Civic. I have one of those too btw and trust me, while slow, it'll still beat a 12A first gen!
