passing my smog test
ok so far i have to take off my intake and put the stock back on because you cant have just a filter on the air pump intake. it has to be going to the airbox.
anyways.
what should i do to insure that my car passes? give it to the smogger warm? cold? drive it hard? it passed 2 years ago so im not too worried but still. it just rolled over to 56k miles so its still a baby. and my cat back shouldnt be a problem.
and im in CA.
thanks

Warm up the engine before the test. Fill up with Chevron gas. Technically you must have a stock intake, but they'll only refuse it if they're ****. You seem to be in good shape otherwise, and probably don't even need the Chevron gas. Just make sure you warm up your engine before the test.

What I did was I hit up the 163 north coming from 8. Once I hit that big hill right after Friars Rd. I just kept it in 4 th gear and that warmed the engine right up as well as the cats.
Luckily my test center was off of Clairmont Mesa Blvd. and there was no wait at all when I got there so that helps out a lot so the cats dont cool off too much.
O ya these cats have 180,000 I believe, but I'm not too sure. The motor I'm runnin is an used S4 motor with 130,000 ( I replaced my old motor).
This method has to be the most effective way of passing your smog test.
Also having your CAS cover helps too (I forgot to put mine on and the guy looked and said, "you have no distributor cap!" I was like it's just a metal plate that goes over it...)
(o ya make sure your running at stock Air fuel Ratio, no high idle, and nicely tuned TPS.)
Check out my results in the pic below.
Where abouts are located, or where are you gonna test it at?

The guy who sold me my RX-7 passed it even with a cone intake installed (most smog guys don't care, since an aftermarket intake is minor smog-wise). I'm in CA. About 2 hours before I picked it up I confirmed that the seller is responsible for smogging it. He drove down to a smog place, smogged it, we met and I bought it. I don't remember the scores, but all of them were better than average. 105k miles were on the engine. He didn't do anything special to it at all. Didn't have time to.
