Part # or name of speedo cable seals?

I'm looking for part #'s or names of the speedometer cable seals at the transmission for an 86 na. I know that there are 2 on the transmission but I'm only coming up with 1, looks like the O ring but I haven't seen a pic of the other seal so have no idea what it is. I assume its some sort of gasket type seal for between were you bolt the speedo cable to the trans. help me out, every site I check only gives me the 1 o ring.

reason I need these: I have gear oil leaking at the cluster end of speedo cable and my speedo now only triples my actual speed. the gear oil is messing up the contact, I tried cleaning it off but have not "fully" disassembled the entire speedometer itself but to no avail. I have a spare cluster but want to drain my cable of all the gear oil in it and get the new seals so I don't wreck my other speedo unit.

1011-17-443 is the speedo drive case to trans O ring

and 9958-60-8166 is the internal speedo drive seal.

(17-442j)1011-17-443 is an oring right at the gear behind the speedometer sleeve
...(17-442K)9986-08166 is the oil seal between the part you screw the speedo cable to and the cable itself.
look at www.foxed.ca Parts manual and it is in Section 1700.

lol, i was at the dealership yesterday and the "old" timers were talking about the parts kit we used to have for the FD reseal, and as we were talking about it i started remembering the part numbers! its about $1000 of gaskets, copper washers, seals, nuts and studs....

then he mentioned the millenia S valve cover bag of S**t, which neither one of us remembered, although we both remembered that the supercharger comes off and its like $600 worth of seals and crap. the Millenia S is the most expensive car to service in the known universe, BTW. they are actually very reliable, but if you need to fix it it makes the FD look simple, and inexpensive.

or to put it another way, i would have been 8 minutes faster if i remembered the seal part number off the top of my head! like i did the oring

i looked something up the other day, and thought it was weird that they went;
locks, bumpers, lights, badges, fenders, side sheetmetal, DASHBOARD, SEATS, DOORS.... it doesn't seem logical.... like doors are on the side?

ah, thank you very much. I need to relocate the FSM and download them, I'm sure there is a thread with a new location. I have not yet taken the speedo cable out of the trans yet but have read some threads. I daily my car, getting sick of driving by rpms and approximate speed lol.

EDIT: wait, when you say "internal speedo drive seal" is that a seal between the cable and the rubber lining or is it also in the transmission? both your part numbers match for the oring (besides the prefix in parenthesis) but you have different numbers for that 2nd seal. should I need 3 seals? I read that somone had a problem with there speedo cable making noise and they took it out, took the metal cable out of the rubber line, and cleaned it all up. then reinstalled it. thats what I was planning to do to clean the grease out of mine. I'll start looking up those part #'s since I haven't yet, I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself.

99586-08166 oil seal.(17-442k)
pages 124/125 of the soft back parts manual.
If you look at it this way: the part that is attached by the 10 mm bolt has a gear that goes inside the trans.
The First part number is a seal that is in front of that gear( if you are looking at the Part when it is IN the trans.prevents leakage beyond the gear)
The Next part number is pretty well on the outside of the Part, where you screw the cable on.
I am 99% certain that THAT is the part that you want.
......
The cable will basically slide easily out of the sleeve anyways when you take it off the trans, and detach it from the speedo. You can wipe it down and spray liberal amounts of lube to it then.

I bought a new speedocable couple months ago, cuz when I took my engine and tranny out, I forgot to hang the cable up, and it was left on the floor for 1/2 yr and the rain water rusted it out >_<

well, my cable was fine before I removed it some months back. I read another thread where they had the same problem I'm having. he ended up completely disassembling his speedometer and cleaning the oil out of it, also replacing the seals on the trans. then it worked fine. I believe I have the same exact problem but I think I'd probably break my speedo if I tried to completely disassemble it so I didn't tear it completely down. I have a spare cluster so I'm just gonna swap speedo's, then maybe after some research I will attempt to fix/clean the broken speedo.

btw, that foxed.ca is the most epic rotary site ever! I downloaded manual/wiring diagram/tech they had for my 86. thanks a lot man.

ok, had a look at that parts manual and I see what I need. I will bring my laptop with me to show the parts store what I am looking for. they are pretty inept up here in VT. now where would you think would have these parts in stock? we have advance auto, bond auto parts, sanels/parts plus, and a napa. I'm thinking napa as they were the only ones that carried in stock a number of my previous parts like an air filter.

^I was hoping maybe someone knew if these were in stock items somewhere as they might be used in other vehicles too perhaps. guess I was worng lol

I really wished stores used the dealership part #'s though. did some more searching online for that oil seal but still nothing. I'll have to talk to the retards at the parts stores and try to sort it out. I wish they hired people that knew something about cars in the stores up here.

guess I might have to try him. heard a lot about him over the years. went to advance (the worse place unless you KNOW what you need) and they told me to go to the dealer because they didn't know where to look in their computer. barely tried at all.

^ they don't have the appropriate wiper linkage bushing for the arm that goes from the motor to the arm either. ask me how I know. found bushing at NAPA though.

looking at the haynes manual, it doesn't even mention changing any seal other then the o ring on that side of the driven gear. I don't even exactly know what kind of seal the "oil seal" is for the speedo cable. I think I'm gonna take it apart and get at that seal so I know what I'm looking for, then see if I can find or fab up an alternative for us. its a fairly common problem that a lot of people assume is a bad cable or broken speedo when its just that seal. I don't see the o ring really affecting my problem, that is to keep the oil from leaking at the trans itself it seems.

it just looks like a miniature cam seal, it seals the speedo gear to the case, just go to the dealer and buy one already! its a cheap easy fix, and you're making it hard and expensive...
