orange or green coolant??

My rx-7 currently has orange coolant, but I can't seem to find anything that says it should be orange as opposed to the green type??

Can I switch to green?? Comments??

Thanks!

Is this a poll?
Orange stuff is better. I forget who makes the brand I'm thinking of though.

The orange stuff is a new type of coolant that originally GM produced under the Dexcool label. Now Prestone and the others are making the orange stuff now. Prestone calls theirs "extended life" and they say that you don't need to change your coolant for five years. I tried it when I put in my new engine, but after about 800 miles tragedy struck and I unwittingly dropped an injector clip into my intake runner when working on my engine. It fried the new motor and I had to have it rebuilt again. Well, Atkins said that the new coolant stuff wasn't working. I had excessive corrosion build up in the water jackets. So I had them put in the green stuff, I have better confidence in the tried and true. I have also heard others saying that Dexcool is not good for a rotary engine. So my advice is to not use it, the green works fine, and it has for many years.

I haven't seen any orange coolant, but I have heard that it is supposed to be used in the newer cars with aluminum radiators.

Does that mean if I end up getting an aluminum radiator upgrade, that I will have to use the orange?

Or has anyone else heard that this is only for aluminum radiators?

Exclamation

Stick with green. Why change it if it's been good to you for so long? ^_-

Peace,
AJ ^_^

Go green..In my day of working at a busy GM dealer i saw a lot of cloging problems with dexcool and its brethren..It also doesnt cool any better..It was made for dumb **** yuppies who dont like to regularly service their cars..

After all if you really take care of your car you wouldnt mind a coolant change every year like you should be doing..Draining the radiator and refilling will be fine with a 60/40 mix the latter being water..

Stick with Green!

I don't know if the chemicals they use in the orange stuff is different or not...I would think that it would be.

The only stuff safe for our engines is the Ethyl-Glycol stuff on a usual 50/50 Mix with water (the Green stuff).

If the orange stuff contains stuff other than the Ethyl-Glycol then don't use it. I have been using the green stuff...works great.

STAY AWAY FROM THE ORANGE!

Some time last year there were several threads detailing engine failure that possibly could have been attributed to the Dexcool stuff. The reason was undetermined, but had something to do with the seals in the coolant system and possibly the higher temperatures the rotary needs to dissapate.

My dad uses the orange stuff in his C4 Vette. It is supposed to be higher quality or something, but who really knows.I think the stuff he has is prestone, and the owners manual reccomends it.I would just assume use what the manual says.My dad's says orange, mine says green.I use green, he uses orange, and everything seems to be fine for both of us.Just my $.02
