Hi guys, there is a short block for sale in the 2nd gen parts section. I was wondering if somebody would take a peek at it and let me know what you think.
If you would rather not post your comments here, you could PM me.
thanks..........ashley

It needs a rebuild. Ask him to carefully break the engine down so you can inspect each part. A rotary can be running and every part inside be damaged. Been there, done that. I wouldn't take some one's word for it. If it is what he says it is, $900 is very cheap. I have spent that just in replacement parts for a single rebuild not including rebuild costs. It will not take much time to break down. These engines can be mystery boxes. You can drive around with 65psi on a blown engine. Boost hits and you forget its blown.

i agree, i wouldn't recommend buying an engine that was damaged from detonation and expect it to be a simple fix.

sometimes you get lucky and the iron is all that was damaged BUT it could have cracked corner/side/apex seals/dented rotors/stuck side seals/etc which you won't know until the engine is completely torn apart. i have replaced just an iron before but i wouldn't recommend it, especially on an engine that broke BOTH front and rear irons, that takes a lot of effort to accomplish and some fairly hefty mistakes. the engine should be completely disassembled and inspected.

unfortunately the only way to know if an engine is good is by driving the car before buying the engine or by having a reputable shop build one. all other options are a gamble.

Thanks guys. Probably would not be a good idea to buy the engine.
