open diff to lsd swap

can an 89 clutch type lsd be swapped onto an open differential 87 4 lug chassis without changing the hubs? also, would the driveshaft have to be changed to use the s5's differential, or is the connection the same?

I know that the driveshafts are the same, but I'm not sure about the hubs working. Why don't you want to use the 5-lug hubs? If your already dropping the subframe to swap the LSD, why don't you just swap out the hubs as well?

well, i don't have any 5 lug wheels at the moment, and if i didn't have to get the hubs swapped, it might have been a relatively inexpensive but worthwhile modification. i guess i'll have to wait until i can do it all at once then.

S4 is clutch type, S5 is viscous. NA axles are NA axles, so the differential assembly itself should fit without a problem. All NA drivetrain components are interchangeable, IIRC. Tranny, clutches, pp, flywheel, driveshaft, rear ends, etc.

now are u sure this is a NA diff??

if it is a turbo II diff this will not fit on your NA car with out a custom driveline and using the turbo half shafts ( flange is larger, as well as half shafts, but at the hub they are same spline)

find out the mileage on it because the clutch type LSDs are known to wear out faster
