it wont hurt the engine to run one rotor (unplug one os the injecot sets) for a few minutes.

i inadvertenly did this on mine. like said it wont idle for crap and will have barely enough power to get you down the road. but as for helping emissions, in ordert ot get it to idle on one rotor you'de have to do as much is not more adjusting and tunning than is probobly necissary to get it to pass on both rotors.

I doubt that you can pass 60 MPH test on the treadmill with one rotor, basic on my experience.

just not worth, and will not work, unless you have a tow truck going with you. :-)

100% agreed that running on 1 rotor will NOT help you pass emissions and would likely hurt far more than it would help.

To rebut some of the 1 rotor comments: I drove on a blown engine for over 3 months and thousands of miles. It was my daily driver. After a while the engine actually idled and started surprisingly well, I'm not really sure why, maybe because there were no seals left? I drove it above 60mph, although only for a short period because I needed it to last.

what is the definition of "blown engine", and "1 rotor"? maybe your blown engine had low compressions but still good enough to drive? but his rotor is totally dead?

I'm pretty sure his engine is not blown but he just wants to know if making it run on one rotor will help him pass smog.

Snrub's engine was totally dead. If I remember correctly, it was the front rotor that let go. No seals left. When the engine was split apart, the housing and rotor was complete trash with massive 5MM deep grooves and chunks missing.

Yes it was the front rotor, good memory. Originally after blowing the engine it did register the slightest bit of compression on one side and later it registered absolutely none. The sound of it changed too. Think about what would happen to a merely damaged seal after running for a while, when one seal completely went. It would be torn to shreads, which is what happened.

A fd guy in socal called JJ on the boards passed with 1 rotor with his fd on stock cats and everything legit.

There's a video i have also of a s5 na running on 1 rotor with a perfect idle but then they peg the tach for about 10 minutes and blow the other rotor, thats a great video haha.

Is that the one that was going around last year, where afterwards they discover that the cat is on fire?

thats a damn good idea. one rotor would be pushing hella clean air, I would bet it would work if you Unplugged the injector ofcourse!

hey... why dont you try this and let us know how it goes?
my thoughts are that youre going to need starting fluid to get her goin, and your going to have to really kick the crap out of your car to get the cats warm.. but id like to see if this works

I didn't like that video of the blown engine S5 with the tach pegged. The engine did not die of it's own volition, it overheated because the rad cap was off (or something like that). Driving the car around for 3 months like I did is probably far harder on the engine than what they did in that video if they hadn't overheated it.
