one rotor fun
would it be bad to run my engine on one rotor for about 15 minutes? i think if i run on one rotor i should pass emmisions with flying colors since half of my emmisions would be just air. so if it won't mess anythign up, how would i go about running my s4 TII on one rotor?

heh.... don't do it. You'll be shooting the excess fuel out the exhaust making for even higher HC's. Then you'll have to change your oil because it'll be diluted with fuel. Then your spark plugs will probably be fuxxored. It may not even run with only one rotor.

It's highly likely that this will cause you to fail emissions.
The engine will idle like crap (assuming you can make it idle at 750 RPM), make no power, and probably won't even light off the cat properly.
Instad of trying hacks, just fix the problem. Unless you've eliminated any of your emissions equipment, if the car is in good tune, it should passs. Many threads on emissions tune-ups.

Running on one rotor will also make you have to pretty much floor it to get moving which is not good for emissions testing. As said above the idle with suck as well.

just no fuel to one rotor, the other rotor would be running. as long as the no fuel rotor has some oil in it i dont think it would hurt anything. i think you would have the same results on your E-test though. your rear rotor is still going to run dirty

what the guy is trying to do is have one rotor run, and the other just displace the air. that way, you have a bunch of fresh air going in, and only one rotor worth of exhaust.
like i said, there are easier ways to fool emissions, but his question was if this would work, so i answered it.

Aaron Cake is the only one on this thread that has said anything worth while: just get your car running properly.
Now to add something to this thread. If you disconnect a rotor's primary fuel injector, you will: not be able to maintain idle below ~1k, you will have a lot of trouble starting the car (flooding it almost every time), you will have a very strange exhaust note, and you will make almost no power causing driving to be extremely difficult. I've had injector clips wiring go bad, and this is what happens.
One thing that would help the situation is pulling the disabled rotor housing's spark plugs, to not put the load of a useless compression stroke on the back of the other rotor. Better yet, go find your emissions gear, and pass legally.

It might 'work' out of the tail pipe, but if you're going far enough to play these games, you're better off just drilling holes in your exhaust. No sane smog tech would pass you while running on one rotor.

lol i dont think the smog tech would know what a rotary is supposed to sound like in the first place, just go in there and say "what, its supposed to sound like that"

All i could suggest is to try and find someone who is willing to take bribes
No but seriously, when i took my first FC to get emissions testing, i had an older lady that had absolutely NO CLUE about rotories, or even cars as far as i could tell. She ended up having someone else come from a brother shop and try to hook my car up. They couldn't figure out how to get an accurate RPM signal from the car. When they figured that out after about 45 minutes, they didn't have a 1.3 Liter Wankel in their database, so they ended up listing the motor as a miscellaneous v6. Still failed though (Emissions was all messed up). But the dudes were pretty cool, they were prior Army and Navy (hoorah!!), and i told them i was on leave trying to get my car back to Texas. So they tried all they could do to get my car to pass, created a huge vaccum leak to lean it out, and it still didn't pass so i was still SOL. But anyways, those were some cool cats :p

They're also not supposed to test it if it's not running properly - i.e. really rough idle, which is what running on 1 rotor will leave you with.)

Just go to a gas staion and they'll pass you, just becuase you to get your inspection done doesnt mean you have to go to DMV and get it done there... Like in my situation my friend gets inspection stickers for $100 cause his friend works at the inspection station

For example, here they have to give the computer a license plate # before beginning the test. The results of your test are fired off to the Ministry of Transportation by that computer. The only sticker they put on your car is one to promote the program. The actual record of the test is purely electronic - you can't beat it that way.
When I went to renew my plate's registration sticker, the girl didn't even want to see the paper from the e-test. She already had it in my info on the screen in front of her.

Hmm, I've done this (run her on one rotor). Not on purpose, of course, lol...
She'll be a bitch to start- you'll have to floor the gas...
She won't idle worth a **** below about 3 to 4 grand...
The engine will act as if it wants to escape the mounts at any second...
I was able to still get her to 7 grand rpms, though, lol...

This was all with the car in the garage, noway in hell was I going to attempt to drive her like that until I found the problem (which turned out to be a clogged injector, BTW)
