Ok, that's it. I'm done with my T2.
Alright, that's waay too much money, and waay too many problems to continue to put up with.
In the last month, I've done the following:
- replaced alternator
- had starter rebuilt
- replaced p/s pulley and belt
- replaced turbo
- replaced all other belts
- rewired my fcd
And now, my throttle just randomly stuck open while I was on the freeway. NOT ******* COOL. It just sticks there at 5700rpm.
So I'm taking it in, getting it fixed. Then it is being sold.
Anyone in Canada want to buy a T2?

gee, did you really think that you wouldn't have to replace parts when you bought a 20 year old car???
LOL
and most of the time a sticking throttle is due either to a bad throttle cable or a floor mat pushed up against the accell pedal.
And for sale ads belong in the for sale section, not the technical section. The technical section is for solving problems... not selling your car.

I know I had to replace parts. However, I didn't think in three months of owning the car, it would be down for 2.5 months. I got the car out of the shop YESTERDAY, and it's down again. Ugh.

I can understand why it's been down so much if you've been taking it to a dealer! Those guys have NO idea what's going on, and will likely screw your car up more, and will ALWAYS recommend unnessicary parts...
It would explain why you're frustrated...

Man... I think the problem lies in the fact that you don't understand that these things are NOT that big a deal... That's INSANE your car was out 2.5 months for such little things...
You could have gotten a rebuild started and alternator for around $200 from nearly ANY auto-parts store (and EASILY done the work your-self, it's a couple bolts and plugs for both), and if you didn't have that money right now, you could've sourced a used/good alternator and starter from (for example) the Rx7club classified section for around $30-40 each!
Belts are about $10 a pop and are EASY to replace.
The power-steering pulley could've been had for $5-10 from anyone parting an rx7...
wiring an FCD? no big deal.
Turbo could be had for $100-150 depending on what you needed, and takes 1/2 hour to 3 hours to do yourself with basic tools, depending on if you're a n00b, and if you've still got emissions etc.
Don't give up, just learn how to work on your car and find parts for a good price...
Good luck!

Yea even I could fix most of those and I know only the basics about the car. Only thing I probobly couldn't do are the Turbos and the FCD but I think I could figure it out after a few minutes here on RX7Club

My job is to blow **** up

i did have the EXACT same problem before, turns out my air filter was slightly broken and let sand into the Air flow meter, and when it opened up it got stuck at a position at which the engine just ran at about 6000 rpm, take it off, clean it up and try ONE MORE TIME!!!!

The only thing you mentioned that even could get slightly tricky is REPLACING THE TURBO...and thats only a little tricky if you have all the emissions on the car...the other stuff if you had the parts could be done by yourself and a Haynes manual in a matter of hours...none of that stuff is worth selling a car over...you sell a car maybe if you blow the engine and dont have the funds to rebuild or buy another one or if you wreck the car and dont have money to fix it...THESE THINGS ARE SIMPLE....NOT JUST RX7'S BUT ANY OLDER CAR MAY NOT BE FOR YOU MY FRIEND...YOU MIGHT NEED TO GO BUY AN 05 OR 06 VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY OR SOMETHING...I am not trying to be rude...but these problems ur having can be compared to changing oil and spark plugs....REGULAR MAINTENANCE.....

I totally agree with you Vex. If you're not willing to fix the car right, do the required research, put up with her quirks and take care of her the way she deserves then you should sell her to someone that will as soon as possible.

vex, $45 for the cable from your local Mazda Dealership. Do this yourself - It's not hard.

Ok, ok, the 2.5 months of downtime may have been an exaggeration. It just feels that long when it is there every other week.
The turbo I did myself. The alternator I did myself. It's more or less the downtime in between because I have zero money to fix it that causes the car to be down.

It's just largely beginning to look like a money pit. I probably won't be selling it. This thread was just an instant-reaction to the problem.

As I understand my intake systems, correct me if I'm wrong here, the airflow meter has zero to do with throttling the engine and 100% to do with fuel delivery. If it were to stick open, and you released the throttle, the throttle butterflies would close, airflow would decrease, and the engine would slow down. If the airflow meter *were* reporting significantly higher airflow (because it was stuck), the ECU would deliver fuel for the higher airflow, leading to an insanely rich mixture, and most likely the engine dying (and probably flooding really badly).
How can the airflow meter setting override the throttle butterflies? It doesn't work that way.

wahhahahaha, well guess what.. i loved my fc soooo much i waited 6 - 7 months to finally get the cash to pay it off and fix it, and i barely got to drive it for 1 month (it broke first month i had it and no lemon law vs private owners)
I did the work myself and im a neb at mechanics.. Full engine swap and it runs wonderfully now. dont give up.
